Best times in the car were also my most destructive times. Ramming garbage cans / recycle bins, and going off this jump in the middle of an elementary school field.

The brakes on my Monza Spyder that I had in high school were squeaking, so I put some grease on the shoes and put it back together. The squeaking went away and it actually still stopped. I got a lot of flack for that the next year when I became a mechanic.

Forgot to tighten the right axel nut and wondered what that grinding noise was. Drifted around a few corners only to make the noises worse... than i noticed i didnt have an axel nut anymore. In my defense I just got it running and was anxious to take it out.

Lowered it with coilovers, then when one of my shocks broke i took a 3 in metal pipe and slid it around the strut to hold the spring holder up.... umm its still holding strong, but hey it saved me some money.

Either putting my own clutch in only to end up dropping the tranny 4 times in a row and wasting 8 months of downtime.

-or-

Driving about 6 miles to work on a flat tire in my beater.

I made a cardboard gasket from a ceral box for the oil fill cap on my '77 T-bird. Had a bit of an oil fire under the hood. Luckily I was able to put it out.

I also rebuilt the "iron duke" in my first 84 SE Fiero. That was a big waste of money, I even put a header on it.

The worst thing I ever did was sell my '87 Toyota pickup. I had two "beaters" (the pickup, and a '92 tsi awd) and a '98 GSX at the time. I wanted to get rid of one of my winter cars, so I kept the Talon, and sold the Yota. I still regret doing that. If I had kept the truck I would still be driving it today, but the Talon lasted me for about another 6-7 months before I had enough and parted it out.

The dumbest thing I did with my GSX, was to buy suspension for the car, never use it, and end up losing money on it.

I still think I win this contest. I've probably spent well over $35k in my car by now. Stupid me.

I used to drive a 1983 vw gti (1st year in the usa, baby!), and had been working all summer as a mountain bike guide in new york (state). When I got home, I was pretty amped to be driving my car again, and was out on a gravel road with some friends in the car.

I was telling stories about NY as we came down a hill to a 'T' in the road, where we'd take a left onto a tar road. I decided to e-brake onto the tarmac and....well....after looking for oncoming traffic, slid sideways in the most pefect drift you've seen, straight across the road and off the other side, down the steep, steep ditch. I stayed on the gas, we landed upright, kept up momentum and somehow I drove the thing out of the ditch, without a problem, or even a studder!

My friends were completely sighlent, and it wasn't until after we got back on the road, and I finished my story that we erupted in laughter at what had happened. Seriously, we were going probably 45-50mph, and at the speed and angle we left the other side of the tarmac we should have rolled the thing.

Let RS Motors touch my car! Clutch job=$600 for labor + over $350 for ACT 2100 clutch (which they called Stage II). I dont even know if they resurfaced my flywheel or not.
Fried my clutch at RF last spring and wasting too much money on crap parts...like Punishment Racings 2.5" Pressbent DP. Cheap in price and quality..haha.

I backed up into those concrete blocks that hold up light poles in parking lots...haha.

hey, that was the first performance upgrade I bought for my car and I didnt want to spend too much and regret not spending enough. Oh I also let Dave's Exhaust shop do my exhaust and that was just as much of a waste of money as the cheap DP. I got a 2.25" custom catback...Oh yeah! LOL
