Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Oh, fun game, mitsu on tow truck game!
Not a flad bed but close.
I have like 5 other instances of it being towed, I think they are on my home pc though and I am at work in north dakota.
This is a fun thread idea i think, tow truck thread.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Pretty sure we should have an official thread about this, lol
Sucky, I have heard rumors of this parking pin issue on the MRs but never known anyone that it happened to...I hope thats not what it is but if it is, how hard is it to fix/at least get rolling?

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
I beleive I found her problem. First one to guess what it is will be crowned king of Mitsubishi's for a day.
First clue, it plagued the drivetrain on 1gdsm's, maybe 2g's as well.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Plagued 1G DSM drivetrains eh? Where do we start.
T-Case locked up? Tranny syncro's gone to shit? Shitty throw out bearing? Broken rear axle? DS carrier bearings? DS improperly alligned? 2-spider center diff broke?

So far nobody is correct. Next clue, rust is involved.

Fourth clue, you had to do a count before replacement.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Ok no more clues.
Pulled the transfer case out slightly from the transmission and a pile of powdered rust fell out between the transmission and transfer case. Found the splines of the transmission and transfer case completely dogged and rusted out. There are multiple splines/teeth missing from the transfer case and transmission.
It appears here is supposed to be an o-ring on the transfer case housing to prevent water from contaminating the shafts, but the o-ring was not there. Since this is the first time it has been pulled on this car, it would appear this is an assembly fault by Mitsubishi.
Will get pictures soon.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Here is where Mitsubishi neglected to install a 2$ o-ring to properly seal water/rust contamination.
Here you can see the teeth heavily worn from rust on the t-case.
Here there is a pile of powered rust. There is actually more than what the picture is showing.
There is alot more damage I cant get a good shot of at the moment. Specifically completlely missing teeth/splines.
Its all stripped out and the repair probably will require a new t-case and new front differnetial in the transmission.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Who is doing the work on the car? Will Mitsu warranty it if they aren't the ones doing the work & finding the issue first hand?

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
There are still oil seals on the transfer case and transmission to prevent oil leaking, but only that o-ring would have prevented water contamination between the transmission and t-case.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
I contacted and sent pictures of the failure to a Mitsubishi service manager. He is contacting and sending pictures to his service represenative but doubts anything will happen.
Very sad as parts availability is scarce and very expensive.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
The SST is a great transmission, but the maintenance/repair/replacement costs for it are enough to make your cringe.

Re: Shari's 2009 Raliart
Hopefully they do something to help out, but I don't thing anyone would be surprised if they don't. I've never driven an SST type transmission on any car but they seem pretty sweet.
