In my Tranny breaking days I tried several different kinds of Tranny fluid.

GM syncromesh = is complete SHIT - put it in 4 tranny's all of which went out in less then 30 days. Yes wheel hope started a chain reaction during race days but only 1 ever broke at the track, usually it was 1 week after that the tranny would go during a normal shift.

Valvoline/Mobil - MT90 currently what's in my tranny - seems to be working really well considering when My is running I've been really hard on it. Playing with the NLTS, and the Stutterbox. and it's taken everything I've through at it so far.

There were several others but I don't know the names only colors of the bottles:

Purple bottle - worked really well but tranny deteriorated quickly (say 4-5 months of driving)

Has any here thought about the fact that when using these "aftermarket" or "performance" gear oils oppesed to what's in the transmission from the factory they are doing it for 1 reason. And that's for the part it is to be used on to perform under not so normal operating conditions. They make the stuff to hold abuse, and yes eventually it won't matter what you will put in, shit will wear out. But the goal is for the wear to be delayed with these oils oppesed to the same abuse using factory recomended oils.

I know people who swear by one type of Redline mix and another who loves a slightly differant mix. Some how will stick to what they have been using as it has worked for them.

And as for the nutty man calling it water... LOL you should see the Heavy Shockproof. Oh my! 75w250. WooT!

Leme just say the truck guys who do regular pulls of 16,000 LB each day all they use in their transfer cases and rear ends is either Amsoil or Redline, hell one guy picked up the truck and as soon as he got it home he drained all the fluids and put redline in everything!.. his last truck went 750,000 miles while towing 10k+ loads daily... thats gotta say something about the redline...

Thats amazing. My Redline tranny fluid was unaffected while doing my 160mph race last summer. I was very happy with it.

oh yeah, forgot to mention the reason his truck blew up was not due to oil either, it was because he put new valve springs and was pushing like 50+psi on the turbo and his head gasket went... at which point when he checked the cylinder walls they still had the nice little crossthreading...

Redline. Good stuff.

The synchros in our trannys are designed to wear. Each time you shift a gear the synchros will wear. The metal used is a soft material meant to give a little so the gears do not clash.

im not sure that a FWD trans breaking has much of anything to do with the fluid.

GM has always worked good for me, easy to get also.

if you keep having tranny issues and change oil 5 times to 'fix' it i think its time for a new tranny!

This soft metal is bronze, and I know they are supposed to wear. But not turn your fluid into gold/metalic looking crap. This metal infested oil will wear everything else out a lot faster then some redline fluid will.
