Unfortunately that's a double-edged sword. As labor costs in one industry go up the consumer prices in others will soon follow. I do agree with Brandon in the fact that many illegals are here doing very good for society and their families, but at the same time they're not paying taxes like a legal citizen and they become a drain on the taxpayers. There needs to be a better system for keeping these hard-working individuals in the country while keeping them from becoming a burden on society; how is obviously the biggest question.

Yep I completely agree that they do cause a drain on taxpayers. That's why I say I'm kind of 2-sided on it all, because I see both sides, and it all just sucks, haha.

What if along with this law, AZ also dropped state taxes, and instead just upped sales tax or whatever. I'm pretty sure there are other states that do not have state taxes and just up other taxes to offset not having a state tax. That way not just the illegals, but EVERYONE is not paying some official state tax. But instead everyone is paying the state money because they are taxed in a different way, a way that even illegals would be paying in.

TX has no state income tax but property taxes are slightly higher and so is sales tax. I do like this since the additional sales tax and property taxes don't even come close to what income tax would be AND it forces the illegals to pay tax in their rent and everyday purchases.

Re: Arizona Immigration Law

The outcry that Mexicans would be profiled as a whole is just not possible. With an easy quarter of the state being legal Mexicans, the cops certainly wouldn't have time to pull over every Mexican they see. This is simply a law that gives them the ability to take action if they have someone pulled over who can't produce paperwork. The fed obviously isn't doing anything, and that even includes the Bush years. We need to tighten the borders and clean house, we probably wouldn't be in half the mess we're in now if this had happened ten years ago.

The profiling thing kinda bugs me, even though there really is no way around it. We need to control our borders more, it should be on a federal level, not just a state level.
Edit: I quoted these ^^, but then read on and agreed with most said in the thread.. so stopped quoting :P.

I understand the reasoning, the issue is how it's used and regulated(nearly impossible). I'm with most in this thread saying they are two sided on it. I agree with most said here as well. The issue is, as racial profiling gets tighter and tighter, it becomes a slippery slope and worries a lot of us about where it is all heading(or could head). One more step in a certain direction is just one step closer to an uncomfortable/scary scenario for our future.

Being a Muslim(even though I am Indian and not an "Arab"), and not being white is already a pain in the arse these days traveling(air travel). The fact that I know for a fact that I will be looked at suspiciously by everyone at the airport(travelers as well as workers), then to know "the call" will be made on the black phone at the counter when I'm checking in(and I'm at the counter because most self check-in kiosk's will deny me/my name when trying to check in), then to know I will be "randomly" searched when going through the security lines, and then to know/feel that a lot of people give me looks on the plan and in the gate seating area just makes air travel non appealing anymore. It is unnecessary for me and all other non whites to feel this kind of stress and disrespect when travelling.

There is an Arab stand up comic who jokes that Arabs are the new "Black's" in America.. It's pretty much true. So looking like I could be an Arab was bad enough, now looking like I could be Mexican is just one more to add to the list.

BTW, going through the legal immigration process is a HUGE pain in the arse as well. I've been going through it for 4.5 years now with my wife(she is from India) and it's still not finished. It's just a BS system for those who are doing it the right way.. Seems easier to do it the other way.

Re: Arizona Immigration Law

On momin's comment about immigration, I have my citizenship because I went to war, I think my brother got his after 7 years.

Receiving my citizenship was how I knew we were going to Iraq because my idiot company wanted it to be top secret.

Doesn't Calderon have his own country to fix? How exactly does Arizona law concern him? I won't even start on Obama...

Re: Arizona Immigration Law

I'll chime in. I was in AZ recently, after this law was put in place, and it is a bit crazy down there, and is obviously the topic of conversation you hear when out to eat or watching any news channel. The weird thing was, all the raids that where taking place happened to be in bad areas and locations where groups would populate for work. Job sites used as targets, but not only for individuals, but for the business owners who are also breaking the law.

The wildest thing I've seen is the river that many illegals are crossing to get into the US. They have found many dead in this river and due to this they are saying it's our responsibility to put ropes and other possible items to prevent drowning in this river (more of a man made river). For those who are for this, get the fuck out. US citizens who favor a change to make it easier to have someone sneak into the US should in tern be deported for being a fucking retard.

Laws today are worthless, they always change and are never good enough. Once a law is broken (such as coming to the US illegally) some group has to challenge it's use and outcome.

I just wish we could go back to simple and bring back the firing squad for death penalty. What, you are an illegal and raped someone and admitted it? Awesome, please skip the court system and proceed to picking your choice of bullet.

Wonder why this wasn't on all the main stream media, they sure didn't mind showing what Calderon had to say while Obama Inc. did standing ovations!!!

Critics of the law haven't read it...

It clearly says it prohibits discrimination. I don't know what is misunderstood about that.

That's unfortunately all too typical, even sadder when the elected officials voting on the issues don't even read it
