Re: Find the boost leak

Yea I'm hoping the head didn't get messed up. There goes my idea that a little more nitrous was safer than a little more boost.

Any body have a cheap 1g throttle body or a q45 tb and a jmf drag mani?

Re: Find the boost leak

It was a bit loud when it blew and the car kept running with the manifold like that.

I should have let you struggle with that line...probably never would have made it back on the dyno. I guess you should blame it on me

Re: Find the boost leak

I have a couple TBs, you will have to look through them and pic as I have several I don't remember what they are off of. I know I still have some on the mani so I guess those would work.

Re: Find the boost leak

Try and have someone reweld it Do you mind saying how big of a shot you are running? Activate at too low/high RPM???

Re: Find the boost leak

Haha no worries Kenny, I'd rather have it happen on the dyno rather than at the track.

We think it back fired on us because the first half of a pull my piece of crap bottle opener didn't open fully or at all, then I manually opened the bottle and then at maybe 5k it popped.

The throttle body seems all right once I pulled it off and I'm going to have Danny up at DB work his magic on the manifold and the car should be good to go by next weekend.

I was shooting a 125 shot at it which probably wasn't the smartest thing to do. Haha

Re: Find the boost leak

I would think that would be fine. I am throwing nitrous on my car and have read several places not to get the electric bottle openers for that reason. You don't know that they are open nor if they are open fully.

I am not going to get one (bc of above and) for the same reason I don't have tuning electronics in the car anymore. I don't want to be making last minute adjustments which may ruin my motor. May change if I get a wideband though.

Re: Find the boost leak

With the bottle not open on the 1st run it sprayed only fuel which more than likely puddled in the manifold and ignited on the second pull.

Once you get it all back together are you going to try the 125 shot again or go back to the 75?

Re: Find the boost leak

Yea pretty much what Brian said, I just couldn't explain it well typing on my phone after being up for 23 hours.

HUGE THANKS to Danny up at DB for already having my intake manifold welded back together!!!

I had the intake manifold already back on and while sitting down to eat some food I luckily looked at my intercooler and noticed that it might have a boost leak as well now. haha

Just another picture for shits and giggles

Re: Find the boost leak

So it blew the manifold and the outlet tank when it backfired?
