Re: License Plate
I used 2-sided tape to attach my front plate once so I could get my fix-it ticket signed off on. I got a very funny look, but it was signed!

Re: License Plate
My first car was a 73 Plymouth Valiant. On the way to school, I got pulled over for no front plate. I told the officer that the plate was there the last time I looked. He said, no there isn't. So I got out and showed it to him.
I had to wipe the 1/4" of dirt off of it so it could be seen. Now if they pull me over in a shitbox like that for no front plate, I can imagine they will pull anything over. And this was over a decade ago!

Re: License Plate
I have probably the coolest setup for a front plate on my 99 GSX. I dreamed the entire idea up last winter because I couldn't find anything on the market. I hate the front plate look but one of the troopers here is a dink. I trimmed the Wisconsin lettering off the bottom of the plate. Technically it's not ok to do that but the worst state trooper there is, said he was ok with it just as long as he could see the letters/numbers. On the back side of the fiberglass bumper(that's behind the bumper cover), I have 2 flat metal slotted rails. The distance between the slots is the distance between the screw holes on the plate. When I goto the races I just get out of the car and push the plate up. When i'm done, pull it down. I devised a bolt system that keeps enough constant pressure to keep the plate where you slide it too. No need for any clips, pins, etc.. When it's down, it sits about 1" from the front of the FMIC. Looks awesome and have had several comments about it.
I'm working to design an electronic motorized version and integrating that into what i have now.

Re: License Plate
I will take some pics tonight and post them shortly after. I will post with it up and with it down. In case it wasn't assumed above, there are no tools required. You don't have to loosen or tighten anything in order to move the plate. You just plain move it and it stays. Super nice at the track with full flow of air to the FMIC.

Re: License Plate
Its illegal to not have one in CT. However with all the other things that are illegal on my car that is the least of my worries.

Re: License Plate
A few guys from x-rated have hinged their plates. Works great, or so it appears (up and out of the way of the FMIC when driving, down when you stop).

Re: License Plate
Wheni hit my deer it ripped the front plate off my galant, A day and a half later i was pulled over for no front plate. I wasnt even doing anything wrong at all and he turned around pretty fast for it. Anyways, he just said ok when i told him what happened, but how patetic is it that it only took me a day and a half to get pulled over for something so stupid.

Re: License Plate
Here is some pics. I didn't realize until later that it wasn't quite all the way down as you can see in the pics. It comes down another 1/2-3/4". You can just barely see the top edge of the numbers/letters when it's down. You get the idea.
Niterydr- I did look into the flip down/ flip up method. There was a how-to from some guy that had an MR2 I think it was. Our opening isn't quite deep enough to do that. The ledge would have to be around the same depth as the plate. .... So I came up with my own idea here.

Re: License Plate
Thanks, I appreciate it. I absolutely hate the front plate look but it's the law to have it on. At least this way, it still looks cool and it abides by the law. I should have took pictures of the construction of it but anyone with some inginutiy could reverse engineer what I did. The flat metal I used with the slot in it just happened to be something I found laying around my dads machine shop.

Re: License Plate
You think you could give some more directions/plans in addition to your reverse engineering statement?
I would really like to do something like this as I actually do not have a license plate bracket for my car, and this type of thing would be perfect for me.

Re: License Plate
I ran my fiero without front plate... everytime I got pulled over for no front plate (3 times)... ticket everytime. Jimmy (TalonFiero) never ran a front plate on his... he (to the best of my knowledge) never got 1.
Not a problem anymore since I sold the car

Re: License Plate
I got pulled over last summer IN Porky's in front of like 75 people for no front plate, but they were all on my side, razzin' up the cops and such. I think it was just a fix it ticket, IIRC.
the cops were looking for anything at that point, but if they had looked anywhere besides my car, they would have seen 10 camero's and a bunch of other cars w/out a frontal plate.

Re: License Plate
I will draw up a blueprint of it using the Microsoft paint program and post it on here. It won't be until tommorow though.
