You'll see a little colored (likely blue) residue on the exposed threads of the screw on the backside of the throttle plate. You can push it open by hand, the spring will return it shut once you let it go.

Blue? Hmmm... Mitsu uses red. And I wouldn't trust blue.

I just want to make sure there is at least something! Blue, red, whatever. Just something and confirm its correct with MAP.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Got the SOB in now! This IC was a pain to figure out. The instructions were in japanese and it didn't mount like stock or like my AMS IC. I had to remove some brackets that weren't used and remove the crash beam and wiring harness to get it in.
It should've been obvious to me, but these instructions suck. It clicked once I got the stupid bracket under the condenser out. All buttoned up, harness back in, crash beam back on and just need to run IC piping to it now Getting closer.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Sorry for bad picture. Also, ignore stock IC piece, they were sold out of the other piece and I am waiting for stock to be replenished.
Only a few hours away from starting this hog. Exhaust in on, hood is back on, wiper assembly dealy back on, IC done, IC pipes on.
Just have intake, bov, 3 port, vacuum hose routing, oil fill, coolant top off and it's ready to go.
Big thanks to Simulatedwood, Shawn is the man. Came over and helped pound out a bunch of crap. While I was picking up bigger clamps at the store he went ahead and installed a bunch of bushings for me, the AMS shifter ones and gate selector ones. I've had them for like 4 years now and never installed them. He said they are like the best mod ever haha.
Anyway, going to try and start this tonight I think!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Well made the push tonight...car is back together, oil is in, went to start...no go.
I have fuel pressure at the rail, that was confirmed.
My guess is bad gas? The e85 in there has been in there for 13 months or so now, for a time it wasn't air tight as well, so maybe lots of crap in gas?
Thoughts?
Drain tank and fill with good new e85?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Is it sputtering in an attempt to fire? I've started cars that have sat about that long with E85 in the tank.

No, not sputtering. Just turning over trying to start and draining the battery.
I haven't checked spark yet though, so that is on my list as well.
But I am going to get new E85 in there tonight to see if that is the problem. It's an easy check.

So it just turns over, never even hiccups like it wants to start? Yeah check spark for sure. Could also be the injectors not firing.

Yea no hiccup really at all.
I think I had this issue with my first motor build as well. Could be the same one.
There is like an AC plug and an alternator one that are the same I think or something weird that causes this. If I remember DB spent hours trying to figure out why the car wouldn't fire. I will check that out tonight too.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I mentioned this on EvoMN, but did you flash a base ROM? Check immo settings, or just turn it off to be sure. I ran into a "this should be right but it doesn't work" situation on a buddy's car last month.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
It starts! Xfonts came over with some good luck and helped me push through. It turned out the battery just wasn't charged up enough. Throw the charger on there and it was drawing 15 amps. Gave it like 10 mins of charging and it started slow but fired up pretty quick.
But found this (see below) after a few minutes of idle and also found that the car was running hot and realized that i forgot to add coolant to it. So probably air in the system from changing out the turbo and TB.
So Friday my buddy is coming over to replace the following:
#11 from here:
#28 from here:
So Friday, I should be able to drive it around hopefully

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Is it leaking bad from the waterpump elbow? Odd that it would start doing that all of a sudden. Still, easy easy fix, external water pump FTW

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Not leaking bad, no. Just a bit. But after like 5-6 minutes of idle there was a small puddle, so needs to be dealt with. Yea looking at it I don't think it will be too bad. Ordering up some gaskets and putting new gaskets in with sealant on them Friday. then all should be good after burping the coolant system.
Then put undertray and bumper on and last wheel back on and drive!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
So got the car's coolant leak fixed, yay. No more leaks, fluids anyway.
Found out my basically brand new 200 dollar battery is dead. I think my trickle charger must of killed it, no idea how but ya, no more leaving stuff on that.
Also, worse, found air leak on the intake manifold. It looks to be coming from the sealing surface between the head and intake mani, we could get the car to stumble by blowing compressed air there, so pretty sure.
I am using one of those MAP pheno-whatever (plastic) intake gaskets. I just had my intake mani ported in between last year and this so my thought is they cleaned up the mating surface and now it doesn't seal the same way it did before.
So, going to probably just order a stock intake gasket and then also a new battery this week and hopefully I can drive it this next weekend, we shall see.
Now just debating on a lithium battery or the pc625 or whatever.

I have one of those phenolic spacers if you want it; uses stock gaskets on either side of it but they work great.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
The orange/brown ones require an OEM gasket on either side of it to seal properly; I do not like this design as it is more prone to leaking. The white ones do not require a gasket as they have a slight amount of squish to them (these are what I've used and recommend). I know people will claim otherwise, but I consider these to be single-use only like most other types of gaskets.
