Yeah, last time I set my rear Koni's to stiff, I fishtailed and almost hit the wall. The AWD's seem to like some rear weight transfer.
Trailer? I drove there and back.

Yeah I nearly fucking bit it. The car hopped 3 times in the rear then I ground 2nd (woot!) and all was fine.
The 1.779 60' was nice, not to hard of a launch, but it spun flat and stayed straight, just what I want.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

Very nice traps Josh. Like you said, get the launch and shifting down and you will put out some impressive numbers on pump. I wanna see the race gas already.

Where was this btw?

Once it's tuned you gonna release dyno figures, that would be pimp. Glad to see it's running!

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

I really think we could have gotten some better runs in, but with having to wait for the car to cool down, so that we could replace the coolant that it keeps deciding it doesn't want, we were only able to get in 3 runs.

Looks like we're gonna go next weekend and put some times down on race gas. Once we're satisfied there, we'll be back to work on pump.

Need to get that suspension sorted out, and that takes a lot of launches and number crunching to get right. I'm sure we'll have plenty of opportunity to get that handled next weekend in Iowa

What headgaskets are in it? Sounds like one might be partially blown.

Either that or the turbo's are hosed. Shane, have you heard of any failures with the ball bearing center cartigages?
We've done an exhaust test analysis of the coolant system, came up with nothing....I am going to pressurize the coolant stream tonight and re-do the test. I need to get to the bottom of this.

I would go with the headgasket/s as well. Considering the boost you are running combined with pump gas. You never really posted details about the rebuid unless I missed them. How did you break in the new motor? Or did you? Did you do any other work other than internals?

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

I haven't heard of any problems with dual ball bearing Garrett turbos, they are usually more reliable than the normal journal bearing turbos. There have been a lot of problems with the HP version of Cometic headgaskets though. They supposedly discontinued them and only sell the MLS one now.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

Yeah, I am running the stocker MLS.
It could be a bad headgasket, but it isn't showing up in anything, I am doing another compression/leakdown test to check for it. God I do NOT want to pull the heads off.
Im going to do a comp test, break loose the studs, torque them to 100 and see if it fixes it.
If not, its time to tear shit down.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

I put a MLS on my car last year and it popped immediately for no apparent reason. I put the HP on and that seems to be fine. Looks like I will use a mitsu metal in the future if this one goes.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

Well got the nitrous figured out.

784.8AWHP, 660.1AWTQ 32psi +c-16 and 60 shot n20

1)My turbo's and intercoolers are pinned, only way to make more power is to add more nitrous, and I probably will.
2)I wanna go single next year, I am tired of the lag and heat, time to look at gt42's.
3)The car pulls 3061lbs of tractive effort in 3rd gear, that is nearly .8 g's of acceleration in 3rd gear!!

I am going to Rockfalls in a few hours, wish me luck.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

I really doubt the turbo's are maxed, 392 whp for each 50 trim shouldn't be stressing it too much. The IC's though, I am sure they are totally maxed. Good luck at the track!

I can't get any more boost out of them period. I'd like to see a 1.5L dsm make 392awhp on a 50 trim. The intercoolers don't help the cause, but I really don't feel like fucking with a fmic on this setup as the turbos will not produce the power levels I want.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Air + fuel = power. The size of the engine will determine where the power band is at, but not how much power the turbo is limiting you to (although the engine may limit you). This is simplified, but that is what the equations boil down to.

There is obviously a bottleneck in your system, but the turbo's aren't it. Either that or the VE of your engine sucks, which I doubt. The HP could end up being limited if the engine was too large for the turbo, but not if it is too small like you are saying.

You have to remember that would be like 460+ per turbo on an AWD or FWD Dynojet and Josh is running internally gated Mitsu versions, which aren't going to perform as well as a normal T3/T4 50-trim turbo.
