A jeep totaled my car!!

Some lady in a Jeep thought it would be a good idea to drive up onto my car!

I tried to avoid the accident but by the time I noticed she was basically on my hood!

this sucks! I need to go search for a car now.
I just spent all this money, and Mike spent tons of time getting this car to run nice, just so a lady could drive onto my car and total it!! Sorry I dont have pics for ya. Good thing is my Dad is going to Nicaragua for 2 months so I can drive his car until I find another one for me.

Anyway, Im interested in buying it back from the insurance company, when its time for that, Does any one now about how much I should expect to pay?

Re: A jeep totaled my car!!

It will probably be like 10-15% of the estimated value. When mine was totalled, they valued it at $5800 and it cost me $650 to buy it back. If you buy it back from the insurance company and not the repair shop, your title probably won't be nicked with a salvage title. Mine is still clear and clean. As long as the title never changes hands, it shouldn't be considered salvage. The only way to get full coverage back on it if the insurance company pays you for the damages is to have it fixed and then show it to them. In other words, they won't pay for the same repairs twice.

Did you have full coverage on it? Who do you have your insurance thru?

As long as everyone made it out of the accident ok, it wasn't all that bad. The main thing is your still ok.

Yeah, Im definetly glad no one was hurt. The laser seems to be the only victim.
No I didnt have full coverage on it, and I go thru Statefarm.

KBB's retail value of the car was $3500, so I should expect to pay about $300-$400?
thats not too bad, I can easily get that back if I part it out.

What do you mean buy it back, if you didn’t have full coverage? If the accident wasn’t your fault than her insurance would pay you.

Re: A jeep totaled my car!!

When my old cavalier died, (hit by a drunk driver) i had bought it for $1500 i told them i bought it for $5000, they ended up giving me $2200 and letting me keep the car for free. so basically i took the 3 remaining rims off of it, took the stereo and a junk yard gave me $125 for it. LOL.

Glad you are not hurt. That was one of my worst nightmare. After all the hard work and someone just ends up destroying it. Was the lady drunk?

If the car is totally and you don't have full coverage you are up shit creak w/o a paddle.
Well you still get to keep the car And for free too!
Then just go after the lady for money, should be no problem since she didn't have a license.

That isn't true at all. Hopefully you have the uninsured motorist coverage though. It is like $23/6 months for me. It is definately worth it! Always carry the uninsured motorist coverage and comprehensive (acts of God, deer, falling trees, hail, etc.).

Re: A jeep totaled my car!!

You're gonna want to find out ASAP if she had insurance. If she had ins. i wouldn't sign off on anything until you're sure you're alright. A guy hit my brother last year. He was ok immediately after but then he started feeling all kinds of pain once he was relaxed after the accident. The guys insurance company ended up settling with him with a nice check because they didn't want my bro. to later on go after them with a law suit.

How is it not true? He says he wasn't injured which = no medical money unless he changes his story real fast, and said he doesn't have full, which to me means no comp or collision. Therefore meaning his company is going to say "oh your car is totally, huh, thats nice, bye!"
However, if it was her fault and she has insurance you could get money from her company, or sue her.

Long story short, you need a lot more info dude.

Uninsured motorist coverage and comprehensive have nothing to do with full coverage. You can get both seperately. I have comp and uninsured motorist on my car, but no collision. So, just because you don't have full coverage doesn't mean you don't have uninsured motorist coverage. He has proven be right because he had uninsured motorist coverage. Wise choice man!

Re: A jeep totaled my car!!

That sucks. I had a lady in an Expidition run over the hood of my old Honda hatch while I was stopped at a light. She pulled out not even seeing me due to the large lift oin the truck and the fact she was short for even a Mexican (4'6-4'9).

I had liability with progressive and she had insurance. I was paid by her insurance even though the ticket for the accident was given to me (police didn't believe me, she said I drove under her, suxs being young and in a slammed car woith big wheels, your always guilty). She didn't file with her insurance and they have to pay you within 2 weeks unless it is protested. I got paid and got to keep my car to part out and junk.

It worked out OK for me, I hope you have simalar luck. My best advise is to get an adjuster/ estimates immediately and bring them to her insurance (or her personally in court) right away. Time is the enemy of all.

Re: A jeep totaled my car!!

Better hope she has insurance because otherwise good luck getting the money. If she doesn't have any, you might not get any. Dylan had that problem when a drunk driver hit his car while it was inside his garage. He didn't get any money out of it and had to sell his car for cheap.
