Code 44: Ignition coil

So now I have a new problem and it seems to happen only when the engine is cold. It starts to stutter and looses power on 1 or 2 cylinders. The check engine light comes on and the car will sit there stuttering with no power for a few seconds then it will go back to normal. Once the car is warm it drives just fine.

Ive had it happen 3 times now and I just want to be sure on what exactly to replace or is there anyway to check out what is going on.

I checked the code with pocketlogger.

TIA,
Peter

Re: Code 44: Ignition coil

I've gotten that code as well. The car ran like shit below 1500rpm, as if it was misfiring. I replaced the ignition coil with one I had sitting here; still same problem. I don't know if they are both bad or what. Here is a list of what order you should check or replace:
Coil
Igniton Transistor
Bad gas
Check plug gap again

Don't forget the almighty ECU if it's a 1g. Before the ECU, i'd be willing to venture it a bad power transistor or dirty/corrded connector at the PT.

Ok, the ECU has new caps in it and it seems to only do it when its cold and it only happened 3-4 times. Its probably a bad connection or like you guys said the PT. Ill try a couple thing and see.

Thanks!

Re: Code 44: Ignition coil

New caps in an already damaged ECU does not mean your ECU is fine. I have run into so many people that think putting new caps in a bad ECU fixes it. NO. The caps caused 'other' components to fail. Usually its EFI relay, idle control, and ignition. Those components are located right next to the caps.

So don't ever rule that out.
