Re: Identify the coolant leak

No more info needed, (obviously a Mitsu from the pic) in that area where the last pic is, there are several possibilites. The water pump is straight up from there so as well as the lines for the oil cooler. The water pipe has an O ring where it goes into the waterpump right above that area as well. You might want to feel the bottom of the water pump and see if it is leaking there, from the pic it looks like it is on both sides of the oil filter housing which would make me thing the pump is the problem.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

We had a problem with Terina's car there too. It was a small pinhole in one of hoses going to the oil cooler. It was very hard to find but the hose had become softer from all the oil leaking down onto it.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

If you look at the last pic you can actually see the crack in the upper hose going to the oil cooler. In the pic, it is just below the hole in the block. Looks like about a 1" crack in the hose. That is the same *$&%! hose that killed the engine in my red car. $.40 hose ruined a head and block.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

Yeah, that what it looks like to me. Especially seeing as how those two hoses just love to get oil soaked, swell, then burst. Happened to me too, luckily I was able to shut down and fix it.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

Now that we have identified the problem can I ask one question? Who put that "fram" oil filter your car?

Re: Identify the coolant leak

Also if you walk into Napa they will be able to get you the exact diameter and length hose you will need, their lookup system is amazing. Just tell them it is the hose that goes from oil cooler to water pipe and back.

I run either Napa Gold(wix) filter or a Mitsu one.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

I considered that hose as well due to the fact it LOOKS cracked, but it may not be the leak. Look at the top of the pic at the opposite side of the filter housing and you see it looks pretty wet as well with coolant which would point ot it coming from above the housing. Both could be bad as well, I wouldn't stop at the line though. Check both.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

Remember though, when the fan kicks in, it will blow antifreeze all over the under side.

It is the place to start. Fix that hose and see if there are any other leaks.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

I am not privleged enough to look at the pics you are editing, But I know what you are talking about.
My first step will be to replace that hose because it does lok pretty bad, then if thats not it I will look at the water pump I guess.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

Well I cleaned up everything good and the car has been sittin in my garage all week.
Last night I went under it and looked around a bit. The only place it was dripping was right under the crank pulley, right at the edge of the lower timing belt cover.
So I am suspecting the worst- water pump, any other sugestions??
I really am not sure what to do
I might have to take a trip to QPR and have someone check it out.

Re: Identify the coolant leak

Did you ever replace the top hose going to the filter housing? It is obviously cracked. Start with the easy stuff, then work your way up.
