You can get a line converter most anywhere. They don't sound like shit, but definately not as good as a real preamp. If you have the upgraded system in the 2g, you probably already have a separate amp and you could steal the preamp output to that.
If you do use the converter, don't crank the volume all the way and be sure to set the gain on it correctly, don't crank it up.
