I finally made a 9 second pass

After a long time of trial and error, the Talon finally made a 9 second pass at Great Lakes Dragway on Oct 27th. The car ran a 9.96@143 off the trailer pulling through the brakes. I had a 50 shot nitrous hooked up. The bottle was at only 650 psi. The second pass it pulled through the brakes again and the headgasket let go around the 1000ft mark. It ran a 9.85@137. This would have been a 9.50 if there were no issues. It trapped at 117 in the 1/8th both times. I was very happy. Jake and I packet it up and drove home. It was a good way to end the year.

Here is a video compilation of it showing the 9.85 and a bunch of other passes.

Good work! Fix that gasket, tweak a few things and run some low 9s next year!

He's parting it, but I'm sure he'll be running 9's in something else next year.

Re: I finally made a 9 second pass

Thanks guys, I love the car and I love DSMs, but I am a little tired of this endless love/hate relationship I have with it. I know that with a better launch it will run low 9s (9:20-9:30). The problem is that, then it will be too close to an 8.99 and I will end up spending another mountain of cash and break a few more parts doing it and it will be another 2 years at which point the car will be worth less than 1/3 of what I put in it. So for now I am gonna take a break, finish the k-member and continue to make parts for DSMs.

The next car I buy/build will be an auto and RWD. I am really itching to build another tube chassis with an auto and a transbrake, but I am not 100% decided on it. I am also having some lunatic thoughts about a tube chassis with a Hayabusa motor and a chain-driven diff ... lots of ideas, but nothing certain yet
