Re: looking at Evo's. Few Questions.
I still dont see that adding up to double the cost haha, im going to have to agree with Brown and Bman.
Its obvious that higher platforms charge more for parts though, then say DSM parts. Its like comparing corvette parts to high end Porsche parts. Might be similar products in the end, like exhaust, but you pay more because they can charge more.
Theres nothing really scientific to a tranny cooler.. its just a tiny radiator.

That's kind of funny that they make a cooler that wouldn't work with their pipe. I doubt with the mounting location that you would be able to upgrade the pipe in the future? Sounds like going with a 5 speed is a better option. I was hoping it was the other way around.

I don't either is a better option, you just need to decide which is for you. Do you want a manual or do you want an automatic? If automatic is your answer, is the extra cost of modifying and maintenance worth the convenience?

We've been having some fun out there trying them out. Just haven't found one that wasn't either roached or beat up. I know they're out there.. Just have to stop finding the ones that were traded in due to issues. 1 SST and 1 5 speed. So far it's been fun, but as I've said a few times they have really been wounded. Did test drive a Ralliart that was in great shape, just lacked some umph.

If you're willing the roadtrip it the X market down here is huge. Don Herring Mitsu is pretty involved with the local Evo club (NTEC) and he's always searching for good Evos, taking them in on trade, and just buying used ones from members who are selling.

Re: looking at Evo's. Few Questions.
Wait I'm going to pay over 500 for this:
1 – Cooler w/ Fan Attached
2 – Thin Spacers
2 – Thick Spacers
2 – M8x1.25 30mm Bolts w/ Washers
2 – M6x1 20mm Bolts w/ Washers
2 – M6x1 12mm Bolts w/ Washers
2 – M6 Nuts
2 – Hose Clamps
1 – 36” Piece of Red 16G wire w/Connector
1 – 28” Piece of Wire Loom
1 – Wire Butt Connector
1 – 120 Degree -8 Fitting
1 – 45 Degree -8 Fitting
It looks like a very nice kit, not denying that but I do think you could piece something together that would work just as well for close if not below half the price like Aaron stated.

Re: looking at Evo's. Few Questions.
I still have my eyes on an 8 or 9 but most of the 8's I've seen are still priced in the 13k range. Most of them at the 13-15k range is still, imo, too much for what they're asking for. Some are 2nd or 3rd owners by then and I feel uncomfortable owning an Evo that I know that's been beaten on already. What's your guy's opinion on this? I know Evo 8's are slowly going down but is it really worth what they're worth?
I also have eyes on the Lancer Ralliart Sportbacks as some of them out of state are dipping in the same price range as a good condition Evo 9. As for insurance, I'm getting quotes and it's pretty ridiculous for a Evo 8 (IMO). As much as I'd like to purchase a Evo 8/9, they're just spendy even though the Ralliart is probably the same, haha.

Re: looking at Evo's. Few Questions.
The problem with the 8's is that they rust pretty easy and they are getting old now. I was looking at them for a while and felt like I was getting ripped off. I love how light they are and they make good power, but that price on a 9 year old car is pretty crazy. It is all supply and demand, obviously the demand is very high for a Mitsu to hold 50+% of its original price after 9 years.

It's the 2003's that have the real bad rust problem.

Re: looking at Evo's. Few Questions.
I have no problem traveling for a car, the big issue is finding one that is in the shape I'd like it to be for the trip to be worth it. I'd hate to fly out 1000+ miles and have to turn around and fly back empty handed. I found a super nice 2011 STI for 24k with 20k on it. Clean title one owner that I might be taking a closer look at. I don't know if driving or flying is a better idea since the car is 800 miles away.

STi = ringland failures even stock, so just plan on building the motor sooner or later, pretty much.

I've been reading that, sucks that they are so fun to drive.. but a big time bomb. Sounds like it was like that for a lot of the newer years of the man van's. This one's out in KS, I wonder if it's cheap due to having a new motor. I should run a carfax on it.
Found a X on autotrader that looks like it's done right, but it's got 18k worth of stuff done and owner claims it's never been raced.. hello red flag.

Re: looking at Evo's. Few Questions.
I know a guy with about $35k into his and it's been autocrossed once; modded doesn't mean tracked.

+1 check out the project thread(s?) for my evo8...I had it for four years...built head, cams, bbx full, alky injection, the thing was fun as hell but I only did the clutch *once* because I never raced it in 80k miles.
My X on the other hand is on its....4th or 5th clutch? I have drag raced it 4-5 times, autoX 4-5 times in 2 years...it adds up
