Re: Back at it

I got the 3582R on tonight. I'm thinking 1.06 T3 was the wrong way to go. But for anyone interested in spool time...

Re: Back at it

For those who aren't on the link forums, I maxed out my pump at 28 psi.

So...

Out with the old in with the new.

Ew, that's laggy. Maybe all the cool drag racers will like all that lag.

About time you got that pump in, time to go for broke!!

What pump is that? If it's a wally, curious to know if the DW did anything for you over it. Mine didn't seem to do much over a standard unmodified 255.

Re: Back at it

Ya the old one is supposed to be a wally but I can't find any markings on it.

I haven't done a lot of tuning yet. Post the 28psi run I tried to run through the gears and went instantly lean in first. So I'm down to 15psi smoothing things out.

From what I have noticed is the DW has brought my AFRs anywhere from one to two points richer at any given rpm. My 15psi tune was doing 12:1 - 12.5:1 it's now 10:1 - 11.5:1.

I don't have time tonight but I will be out tomorrow trying for 33 - 35psi.

^Like. What psi is that turbo good for? (what is the max?)

Re: Back at it

The 1.06 will stop making power in between 35 and 40. But I don't think I'm going to stick with it. I'll probably move to the .82 late this month or early next.

Re: Back at it

Went out tuning with Aaron tonight. The car now MOVES at 30psi.

However...

I am once again out of pump at 29-30. So much for a $100 upgrade. I'll see about getting a pump next month if the weather is still decent. But I'm going to the track the way the car is.

Re: Back at it

A nice boost a pump would probably do the trick. I might know a guy that has one too...

Re: Back at it

Seems the DW aren't really outflowing the walbro 255's. Boost up that pumps voltage and report back results. Do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? I thought one of the advantages of the DW is the continued flow at higher psi?

Re: Back at it

Haha, Brad. Maybe let me try it out to see how much more I get out of the pump? I really don't have any experience with them and they do cost quite a bit more than just one more pump.

Swanny, yeah I do have an AFPR. I haven't read much about the pump, but I have seen the flow sheet. It's a good idea, but I'm not sure at what point the flow would die at. Maybe I'll test that out tomorrow.

Brandon, you should have run me. Especially prior to tuning, I was only on 19psi. Although I've already had one car throw a rod through the block next to me. One time a season is enough.

Re: Back at it

AMS did this test, assuming 13.5 volts. Seems to match what you are finding. What size injectors again and what airflow numbers? Fuel type?

Re: Back at it

1680cc high impedance Boschs, on E85.

I'm not sure on airflow to tell you the truth. Link says 75.3 lbs/min at the highest point, but my AFRest is 5% richer than actual AFR. With 5% taken off the airflow, it's still 71ish lbs/min. So I think it's inflated somehow but not sure now.

Re: Back at it

You live in Savage? Where at? I haven't seen this car around yet. Also you called me Swanny...what is your name? Odds are I know/recognize you but not the SN.

1680's should not be tapped out, plus I doubt that DW300 can support 1680's @ that boost pressure, you may be out of pump. To gain flow, you will have to scale back the baseline fuel pressure AND supply more voltage to the pump, hopefully the FPR can keep up. I am assuming your baseline is 43psi +30psi = 73psi gauge. If I had to venture to guess that would be around 225LPH. What is interesting, is per the above chart, you were only flowing maybe 200lph previously.

I would suggest to pull the baseline back to 30-35psi gauge. That will put you around the same flow now (little higher technically, maybe 20 more lph) at up to 35psi. Gives you some headroom.

Of course you are shrinking the injectors roughly 16.8%, making them 1397cc @ 30psi baseline fuel pressure.

Re: Back at it

I'd let you try it if you install it and un-install it if you don't like it, ohhhh and I get a ride in it

The boost a pump and a single walbro was enough to make the 520 at db on boost and 597 on nitrous. It'd be interesting to see if it would give enough juice for your setup.

Re: Back at it

BAP is the way to go; your fuel system (and its limitations) are nearly identical to mine:
DW300
FIC1680's

Ran out of fuel probably around 420-435whp at DB. Installed BAP and I can run a LOT more boost now!

albeit the X tends to run out of fuel a little sooner than DSM's/CT9A evos.
