The spline count refers to the shafts going to/from the transmission and transfer case. There was a split in 91 depending on when the car was made, earlier cars (89-91) are 22 splines and 91+ had 23.

No.

Its 5 bolts if your DSM is all together + 2 for the downpipe to swing it out of the way.
