Re: Project Lex

Steering rack is in with the new TME poly bushings. End links have been tightened up, and the new tie rod ends are pumped up with grease. Filled up the PS fluid and took it for a spin around the block. Car feels MUCH tighter, it was immediately noticable! I think the steering bushings are mostly to thank for that. The old ones were stock rubber, and were falling apart. I'm sure new stock rubber ones would have felt better also, but they're still rubber and have a little play. These poly ones are stiff. I love them

What was funny though was we must have been off a little bit when putting the steering wheel shaft back on. The car still drives perfectly straight, but the steering wheel is like 100* off. It's pretty funny looking cruising around with the steering wheel that far off, haha.

Also I think the motor mounts made a difference as well. Steve even mentioned before that when you just free revved the car, you could feel the motor shake a hair. That is gone now, you hardly feel anything!

But also thanks again to brownman for stopping by and helping me. I would still be trying to get that f-in rod in if it wasn't for you man

Next I'm going to move onto the rear end. I have the new rear swaybar endlinks to install, but while I'm back there I will be checking for anything else out of the norm. But I'll wait a week or so to do that, I want to enjoy driving the car this weekend.

I am honestly really happy I'm approaching things in this manner, meaning doing all this maintenance up front before throwing power mods at it. Just this alone made the car feel so much better to drive, I'm amazed!

Aren't you going to get it aligned? Sorry if I missed it in your posts; but with all the front end work I wouldn't drive it that far without getting aligned, that is unless you want new tires too.

Allignment is definately in order, yup. But I'm also going to be changing the front upper and lower ball joints, so once that is done is when I will get it allgined.

Re: Project Lex

Since it's a nice day I decided to hang out outside a little bit and do some more.

Rear sway bar end links are installed. The old ones actually didn't look horrible, but apparently they made it 150k miles so hopefully these new ones will also

I'm also going to try and work on the steering wheel issue a little this afternoon as well.

Re: Project Lex

Spoke with Ricer Pete a little bit today, and will hopefully be having him getting this thing alligned

Also got some stuff today!

- SS Braided Power Steering line from Drift Motion (to replace my possible leaking 160k mile stocker.

- Tial 40mm wastegate I got used off the Link forums. This is what the manifold is flanged for, so that's what I'll be running!

- AEM AFPR w/ Turbosmart liquid filled gauge. Great price from the folks at MAP, and they had them all in stock

- Two Walbro 255hp pumps. Once again, thanks to the guys over at MAP, had it all in stock

As the maintenance stuff is winding down, I'm starting to focus on mods I can start to do. As you can tell, I've decided to start tackling the fuel system. Plan is basically to run a dual 255hp intank setup just like I had on my 1G. Worm clamp em to the stock hanger assembly and set em up in parallel.

I'm unsure what the stock fpr can handle, so just for good measure I decided to grab this AEM AFPR from MAP that they have priced very nicely. And I like the fact it's black, and not bling bling anodized red/purple. Haven't figured out where to mount it or line size or anything yet, but that's ok this is still just the acquisition of parts phase.

http://www.moddersmart.com/en/primoc...tting-3-8.html

Link to cheap Y-fittings for dual intank setups. Some guys have been using them successfully on the link forums, so probably what I will use as well. Apparently can't order online there for the time being until they finish updating the site. Not bad at .99 each. I'm going to grab 5 of them incase I break one, or if anyone else needs one, might save on some shipping costs.

I don't know if you're planning on running E85 again. But might these get eaten by it if you are? Or is it just rubber that has trouble with E85?

Re: Project Lex

handful of guys on the link forums seem to be fine running these on E85. It was said they are e86 safe. I have no clue what makes it safe or not, but if it's working for them for a couple years than I'll give it a shot. All the metal Y's I've found thus far are like over 20 bucks. I could just use a brass T again like I did in the DSM but I caught a lot of flack about that, even though it never seemed to be an issue for me. So I'll give these a shot.

Those manifolds aren't flanged for a Tial 40mm? Not last I checked? Do the holes actually line up? They've always had that HKS rectangle flange...?

Submersible line is supposed to have a 30r10 rating and regular lines 30r9. At $20/ft, 30r10 isn't what will come in a typical install kit. Less expensive line will certainly work but the oils will get pulled out of it over time--you'll find the black goo in your fuel filter and on your injector tips a year from now.

How does that relate to the Y-fitting that I was referring to?

I haven't checked to see if it matches up, but I will now that you've said that. I assumed i was a Tial 40 because of the square flange not only on the manifold, but on the dump tube as well. Don't the HKS's have a 4-bolt manifold flange, but a 2 bolt flange for the dump tube? Maybe I assumed wrong and I just goofed...

I was commenting on the photo of the install kit.

All of the aftermarket double-pump kits that I've seen use a metal Y. I'd be more concerned about plastic cracking under pressure than the fuel chewing it up. That piece looks sturdy from the pic.

Full Blown uses brass parts in their kits and they should be cheap if you can find what you need--it's basically plumbing or hydraulic parts rather than designed for fuel like AN fittings.

Re: Project Lex

I ran a brass T on my DSM setup, and would always catch flack about how it wasn't ideal for flow because it's a T and not a Y, yet I never really seemed to have an issue with it. The metal Y's I'm finding are in he $25+ dollar range, which I'm too cheap to do that. While I would much rather have a metal fitting, if others are using this without issue I may give it a shot as they are $1. Or I'll just hit up Ace and run another brass T and say screw the nay-sayers

Re: Project Lex

I'd do metal fittings, but thats just me. If its be proven to work, then well it works. Piece of mind thing for me.

Boo T-fittings, remember to upgrade the wiring.

I ran a brass T also Brandon. I think we made right around the same hp (512 DJ@DB), so we certainly didn't find the limit for the T itself.
