Re: Why do I keep blowing turbos?

With 30 weight oil and BS deleted without porting the oil relief valve I can't even begin to imagine how high the oil pressure is..

For the sake of having some raw numbers, I'll put a gauge on it and take some readings.

Obviously running SAE30 vs a multigrade will be thicker when cold, but the car is not driven cold (50* ambient temps is about the lowest the car has seen in years). Once warm, a 30 weight is a 30 weight, regardless of it's cold starting properties.

I'll report my pressure findings.

Re: Why do I keep blowing turbos?

I just wanted to follow up and say thanks to everyone who helped me track this down so fast. I switched my oil supply to the head and the smoking completely stopped within 20 minutes of driving. Put on over 200 miles of heavy driving tonight and not a hint of smoke out the tailpipe!

You guys rock!

I would switch to a high grade 10w30 synthetic which ever brand you want. I like Redline oil, Amsoil, castrol syntec, mobil 1. Detergent is in oil to hold dirt and carbon etc. Unless you have done a fresh clean motor build and only race the car with light street driving and plan on 300mile oil changes get some "normal" oil in that motor. Also glad to hear you have hooked up the factory turbo how they intended it to be hooked up, off the head.

I run my GT4202 off the head, 300 some miles and going strong.
