Subaru vs. 2g?
Hey all, I'm currently in the market for a new car. I've always had a thing for eclipses, but how would a 2g gsx stack up against a wrx(non-sti).
I've narrowed it down to a wrx or a gsx, and just curious as to everyone's opinions. The car would potentially be used for auto-x, as well as a few drag strip passes every now and then.
Has anyone had any experience with the newer wrx's? Im currently interested in an 09 wrx hatch. Just cant decide if I want to deal with that high of payments monthly.
Let me know!

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
I used to own a 2g gsx and I now own an impreza 2.5 rs. I can honestly say that my stock 2.5 rs handles way better than my gsx. My buddy has a 02 or 03 (can't remember) wrx and that thing is much more comfortable than my old 2g. dsms are easy to make fast, but as far as reliability and drivability, I'd go with a wrx.

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
I hear that the new subarus ride great! I test drove an 09 and I loved it.
Im honestly concerned with keeping up with some of my buddies though. I dont want to be the slow guy! How do the wrx's stand with the gsx in the 1/4 mile? Most of my friends run at rockfalls and what not. I know the new wrx's are putting 265 at the crank, and theres some people on the subaru forums that are claiming 230hp/277tq at the wheels.

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
A stock '09 WRX will destroy a stock GSX in every performance aspect.

When it comes to modding, the sky's the limit on both of these. It just takes money. Buy what you like

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
Do what the pocket book says. Maybe find a nice used 08 WRX or something so you can get a lower payment. Brand new cars seem like a bit of waist of $$ to me. Get the tittle in your name, drive it off the lot and the value drops by $2K on the spot. (Or at least that's what it seems like) Seems dumb to me. Unless the 09's are THAT much better.

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
I love 2g Talons (especially 97-98), this is a mitsu site after all, haha.
For the WRX I do believe they upped the power quite a bit, and I think a different turbo. Emily looked into one briefly, and the salesman listed a ton of upgrades for 09.
However, you can get a mint 2g with low miles and put a few thousand into it and it'll be much faster, half the cost of a newer wrx, but less reliable (though still not bad if you keep it reasonable, < 350whp). But if you're going to autox it, it's going to put you in SM vs a stock class, so you wont be as competitive at that point.
I guess it depends if you want to mod a cheap car, or have a newish comfortable car that is more reliable and performs better stock.

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
newer is better, but if you ever find a babied GSX I'd get the GSX. like what Schiedes says, the sky's the limit for these cars. Sometimes I want to get a 2g 97-99 GSX just because of the looks. I'm not a big subbie fan because we're rivals! lol. jk, but it seems that subarus are just much are harder to work on and all. here's a 2g i found on craigslist.

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
I am completely biased. In my opinion the GSX is what I'd prefer, but a ten year old car vs. a brand new/near new car? Thats really the biggest thing. If my plans were not to have a crazy car, a daily driver, I'd definately get the newer car, simply for reliability/comfort.
But when it comes to making power, and going balls out, Subaru's are NOT the car to get in the 4 cylinder world. Mitsu's definitely take the cake.

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
^I agree.
My question is which is a better dd (light modding). Wrx or Evo?

Not to start a fight or anything, but the ralliart is a joke .
Back on topic, I would go with the WRX honestly...but I am kind of biased. It will be much more reliable and after about 1k in mods ( Full exhaust / Tune) you will be able to beat Stock Evo's/STi's at the track. Not sure what your buddies run but you mentioned not wanting to be the "Slow Guy".

Re: Subaru vs. 2g?
I LOLd too. Of course a car with 1k in mods will beat the other cars stock... you could just as easily put mods into the Mitsu, probably more easily in fact. Also ralliart have all closed differentials, I don't think the WRX can say that.
