Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
shane, wanna revisit the dyno, and try out a stock ignition setup, if I can find one? I wanna put this fucking crap to rest.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I have two separate sets of good wires you can use, Taylor (RED, they match!) and stock mitsu. I'll bring them to Minneapolis next weekend if you haven't tested anything by then. I don't have a spare coil pack anymore though, I'm sure someone does.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Wire it up so that we can switch to a 1G eprom and a 2g maf when you get here. If it was my car, I would keeping putting things back towards stock and keep them stock until the problem is found and then start adding parts back in. If you have 2 possible failed parts then you are screwed and will never figure it out.
It's hard when you have a lot of the common possible problem makers on your car. Here is a list of common troublemaker on DSMs.
1. Boost leaks
2. COP
3. MSD Ignition
4. Relocated Battery
5. Relocated Alternator
6. Wiring harness tucked/modified
7. AEM EMS
8. Shitty plug wires like Magnecor
9. CAS
10. Fuel pump voltage
11. Bad alternator
12. Bent valve/rocker popped off/valves hitting pistons/worn cam
13. Head lifting during boost
14. Bad knock sensor
15. Dipstick blowing out
16. Clogged fuel filter
17. Coolant temp sensor bad or bad wiring to it
Then there is just having the wrong parts for what you are trying to do or the wrong supporting mods. An SCM61 on a car with no suporting mods isn't going to make anymore power than if it had a 16G, it will just be laggier.

Solid list! It has been constantly eliminating problems with this car. I know it had a grounding issue and an alternator that was discharging over 5k when we first started monkeying with it (when MAP was in their old buliding).
It has had 2 or more problems the entire time, just been trying to eliminate them systemactically. I am glad you are in the same boat of start returning it to proven stock parts until the problem surfaces.

Oh Rantking, what great advice thee has given.
Hell thats what we do if this thing wasn't a race car right? get it back to stock slowly and figure out what the problem is.
Swifty said he is ready to go back to stock ignition last night, so hopefully the next time he comes on here it will be in.
B mans car is sick.

That's quite a list to be checked Shane! Good thing there's only about 13 out of 17 of those possible problems on Anthony's car.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Swifty, You only tried ONE stock ignition, perhaps it was not working properly?
I don't know how reliable or long lasting the stock dsm stuff is, but in my experience, it's quite common to replace a bad part with another bad part because it's used.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
What crappy luck only making mid 500awhp at DB. haha
Sucks you have issues but thats still some really good power, I wish I could make that much.
I've also got a stock coil pack sitting around if you wanted to try and see if that helps out the reving issue

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
still, remember half my car is missing as far as wiring is concerned. I dont' care to go re-wire everything. I have tried John's AEM box, so I atleast know FOR SURE mine is ok. I'm gonna try and get a coilpack and such from my old house with the wires tomorrow, and work on logging it, seeing what shane thinks. Also, on a side note, I am trying to work out in my head how to set up a switch for the logging feature on AEM so I may just turn the switch on and off. That way, I'm not logging EVERYTHING till I pull it with the laptop. I have it set up currently to log anything above -14 vac, 3500rpms, and more then 50% throttle. But, I'd rather log a broader range, without logging the whole time, so I'll figure out a switch.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Glad to see you're finally tossing that COP setup for now. You have to remember that when you tested it last time, it was with an AEM that was horribly wired, so that could have been a contributing factor before. I also vote making it run on DSMlink and ditch the whole AEM setup. AEM seems a little overcomplicated considering how capable and easy to use as DSMlink is.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
eh..I like the AEM..i'm learning more and more about it..So, I will not ditch it. I know it seems everyone here seems to dislike it, and I'm one of the last few people on it, but whatever.

Don't get rid of the aem. That would be stupid of you imo. You'll just have to like everyone said throw a few stocker parts on until the problem is found, and go after it with a good dvom.

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Hey man, I have AEM, and I have some learning to do, but I think it's cool. It also happens to be that I'm the only starquest owner using one (that I know of).

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I think I blew it up..turbo atleast. I dunno.
Was on my way to my rents for dinner, did a quick lil single gear pull..didn't even rev it all the way out, and it started to smoke. Blue smoke. Ever since..driving is ok, but as soon as you let off the gas and decel/vac then it smokes pretty decently. Also, when going from a stop, if you give it and kinda gas..nothing serious, but some it will smoke. regular driving, is ok no smoke seen in my mirrors. But, vac. it smokes. My exhaust is coated on the inside too of oil. Smelt of oil. I dunno if the turbo seals are blown. I know it was just sent in to PTE like a year ago for the fins all messed up, and I got a new CHRA. So, why it's blown is beyond me. I tried pulling the intake off, and it has slight shaftplay up and down, and I can't tell if any in/out. I also don't really know for sure what is considered "normal". But, do these symptoms sound like a blown turbo seal, or something more serious?

I've got the same problem, however we think some of my valve seals may be bad. This started for me on Saturday. :\ We've already done compression testing, the results were normal, so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the rings. However when we were pulling plugs, cylinder 4 had a substantial amount of smoke coming out of the spark plug hole.
The exhaust manifold is going to get pulled this week to verify it's not the turbo. I have my fingers crossed that it's the seals since those can be done without pulling the head and it's only $30 for a new set of valve seals.
GL man!
