I think he may just get rid of the cats for now. Aside from the better flow, another big benefit with side exit exhaust is that the rockers won't get as hot as they used to. A couple of friends burned there legs.
Regarding the 8.3 comment, 8.0 > 2.0. When it comes to size, bigger is better, just ask the ladies
