DSM: 16G & Cams
Hey guys, I remember a thread a while back where we were all recommending someone with a big 16g upgrade to a 50 trim instead of getting some beefy cams for his setup.
Just out of curiosity, how much power (whp, local dynos) are guys with a well-setup (fmic, full exhaust, 550cc injectors, decent tuning method) DSM making with a 16G and some big cams, like BC 280's, HKS 280's, 272's, etc.
I just was thinking about this older thread today and how the 50-trim was everyone's answer, and here I am today with a 16G (evo) on my car and hks 280's, happy as a clam with the ~40whp extra they gave my 4G63.
Anyhew, dyno graphs would be awesome (LSE, DB?), any specifics would be nice too.
Thx all!

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
You have a much better 16g than what is available for a DSM though. The older 16g's just run out of steam on the top end too quickly. A E316g would hold a bit better, but didn't he have a small/big 16g?

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
I would also be interested in this. I am going for the "stockish look" on my car and I was wondering what kind of power is achievable so I have an idea what to shoot for on the dyno. By the time dyno time rolls around (end of next summer) I hope to have an adaquate fuel system (joining the FlexFuel mafia), DSMlink, FP2's (272's), big 16g, supra side mount w/hard pipes, 3" exhaust, blah blah blah.

Ya Chris, you EVO guys have the crazy 16g's that seem to put out damn near what 20g's put out.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
I have the B16G, and it sucks, drops down to 18psi, loses steam by 6000.
i would say that new 18G, or an evo3 16G.
I am wondering about the cams too, i have BC280s and i have heard nothing but good about them.
that setup on E85, reliable quick DSM.
If i was ever unhappy with my setup i would come back to a 2.0 and probably the new 18G, if not evo3.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
How do you tell the difference between the eb16g and the regular b16g? Don't they have the same wheel?

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
IIRC, the small 16g has a little bit smaller wheel and turbine than the big 16g and the evo III 16g has a little bit bigger wheel than the big 16g. Lets see if I can find that comparison chart...
Oops, same turbine, just different wheels for each. Linky

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
sorry guys, maybe I should havebsen a little more specific. We are all aware of the 16g variants; i'm just curious what kind of power people arepitting down. Brownman, you have a setup like this what kind of numbers are you putting down?

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
Dave aren't you on meth/water injection too?
This is Aaron, i dyno'd at 294hp, but my bro and i finished the tune, by adding timing where we could and picked up another (according to DSMlink, 20hp&tq) that is a big estimate as i haven't tried to mess with it at all.
But i would like to say i make 300 & 300 all day.

Yea, running a little meth with the race gas. Seems to work out sorta well. My injectors are pretty well maxed out so I'm debating about changing it to corn. At the track I was hitting about 26psi then it would fall off from there. I know the car has an 11 in it for sure just need to stick it off the line and not do the crappy 1.81 60's.

^You probably need to go to a diff. day at brainerd or just a diff. track.

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
Your car is a freak man! That is gonzo power from a 16G on a dsm! I saw your car over the weekend, looks good! Shane was ho-hum as always but deep down I know he was gloating a tad about this one! What comp cams do you have? And on stock 2G intake mani to boot!

Re: DSM: 16G & Cams
Well this is perfect timing. You just got the "16g and big cams" number and I'll post up what my 50 trim setup does tomorrow. I kinda think since I'm running 92 that you've got me beet though ahah
