Installing FMIC

What do you guys use for cutting the metal part of the front bumper? I have my fmic all in and bolted up but the metal frame on the front bumper is stopping it from bolting up to the car. I was just wondering what you guys used to get it on.

Re: Installing FMIC

Sawzall, Plasma cutter, Cutoff wheel, anything that will cut through the metal will work

Yup, sawzall is what I've always used. A hack saw or any of what Kevin mentioned will work dandy. You will end up taking off a lot more than you think you need to

A Rotozip owns metal too. Usually a sawzall or cut off disk work the best.

Re: Installing FMIC

I was just going to say angle grinder, but they do use composite discs that are meant to wear down, that's how they make money, you have to keep buying them. The 30 dollar angle grinder is cheaper than a sawzall though.

So where is it that I get this sawzall? I've never seen it before. Where do I get it? Does it need a air compressor? Thanks guys.

You can get a Sawzall (Reciprocating Saw) at any home center... Here is a link about it.... Sawzall Reciprocating Saw By Milwaukee Tools

Do you own a House? If so you find lots of things to use that with. But if not see if some one else will let you borrow it. Granted chip in for the new blade for it. Or two.

Go ask your neighbor or a friend. I'm willing to bet someone around you has one.

Re: Installing FMIC

Also, a helpful tip. Don't try and cut the entire hole out. What I have found works great is a pair of tin snips. Just make a few cuts around the current hole going outward, then take a hammer and bend the metal backward or forward until the hole is big enough for your piping to go through.

Tin snips are are cheap, but a reciprocating saw is always nice to have around the house/shop.

Re: Installing FMIC

Well I got the intercooler in and everything. The only thing is the metal on the bumper. I'm working on getting a sawzall or borrowing one to cut that metal piece that is hitting the intercooler, hopefully.
