Good size rims???

I was wondering whats a good size rim and tires?

I was thinking either 17x 8 or 8.5 , with 235/40/17

or

18x 8 or 8.5 with 235/40/18

I plan to drop the car a lot lower then everyone else thats why im wondering how wide and big can i get the rim and tire to be so that the car will have a very nice drop to it.

Re: Good size rims???

what year?
if its a first gen, i say 17, if its a second gen, i say 18.
As for it being 17x8 / 8.5 same with 18's, i would not know.

My 2g has 18's, and i like it. My friend has a 2g with 17's and he wished he got 18's. All though i do need to lower it due to the gap.
I saw on the highway a black guy with a sweet red 2gb with 19's? There was barely any gap and that thing looked mean as hell. Props to you if your on this board.

Just my 02. Sorry if i didn't really help.

Re: Good size rims???

yeah my buddies got a 97 white gs-t spyder and he's got 19's on there and it looks soooOoOOo nice.

well i have the 1g but the thing is that when i bought my car it cames with 18's, the 18's look kinda gay though thats why i want new ones.

one more thing.

Usually from what i notice if you get rims with a lip (a decent one at that) the rim will actually look a size smaller, thats one of the reasons why im kinda leaning towards 18s.

Re: Good size rims???

If you drop it say 2inches, 17's will be more than enough. 18's are a bit overkill in my opinion. You lower to remove the gap which is what causes your wheels to seem small. If you have a FWD, you will want some tire on that rim otherwise your tires will break loose that much easier.

Peronally I like running 16inch rims with a slightly oversized tire. This allows you to have a little bigger overall sized wheel and it keeps the performance aspect in check. The more tire, the better traction ( for a 1/4 at least).

My buddy has my old car. I'll check the tire specs next time I see him. The tire sticks out over the rim a little bit. The car has massive traction out of the hole. It's ridiculous

Re: Good size rims???

Well i really don't want those rims i have on honestly, but like i said before if the rim is a 17 with even just a little lip it actually looks a size smaller say 16, which makes the car look like thats the way the stock way should be...

TKR you got any pics?..i'd like to see it!

Re: Good size rims???

1Gs are very hard to get nice rims for. The bigger they are the shittier they look IMO. 17x8s are pefect for a 1G, most five stars look good on them. I have 18x8s Konig Caffeines on my 2G and they fit the car great. But on a 1G they would look stupid.

Re: Good size rims???

Well I found these two pictures on other websites and they look REAL REAL nice.
The Talon looks like it's been photoshopped, but it still looks good.
The Eclipse looks similar to TKR's, but both LOOK REAL NICE.

Re: Good size rims???

I'm probably going to be running 17x8.5 with a pretty decent drop, the only question is, I dont know what tires would fit that? Also I don't know if it should be +25mm or +50mm? Could someone clarify a little bit?

I really like the Bridgestone Potenzas, I think they look sick and they look like they would grip like no other.

I'm also not sure what the tire dimensions should be, I want a little bit of a lower profile then most 17s, I always see like 50/55 and I think on a pretty decent drop with a smaller profile like 40-35? Is that too little?

I'm a tire/wheel n00b for sure.

Re: Good size rims???

Go to tirerack.com and read reviews. Some General tires got really high reviews even compared to other name brand tires and IIRC the 225/45/17s were like $70 a tire.

I would definately get some 17's on a 1g. 18's look best on a 2g, but they are just too big on a 1g. I am going to get some 17" ADR rims. They are black "mesh" style wheels with a polished lip. I saw them on tuners for sale, man they look sweet as hell.
