I didnt want to whore up that new guys topic so I decided to make a new one about tires.

I am looking into tires for next season and was wondering what kind of tires you guys have used or are using and if you like them. Also what tires to stay away from.

I currently have Continental Conti-touring Contact on my car right now. Had them since I bought the car and they were close to brand new then. They havent worn down alot since then so they are great on wear. They have good traction in dry and wet, I can never spin (wet or dry) them unless I do a hard launch. In the Winter they are great in the snow with awd its always fun to do the donuts but these tires work really well in the snow for an all seasons. Im surprised how well good they are.

I recomend these tires for general daily driving for all season. They come stock on BMW and Benz.... so they have to be ok.

I would stay away from Michelins specifically Pilot XGT's My dad has them on the 940 turbo volvo and in the rain it spins no problem... they are that good in the rain.

Boy that was long.

I am big fan Sumitomo HTRZII's. I got them about 4 months ago and they work well. I never hear them squeal and the never lose grip. I picked up a set of 204/45ZR16's for around 450 mounted and balanced. They added a nice drop to my car(92 Talon). They are great in the rain too. Of course I haven't had any launch issues because of that whole power going to the rear wheels thing.

I run Bridgstone Potenza 730's. (205/55/16) They are a summer tire with a directional tread. They have worn well are super sticky even in the rain. I beleive they have been replaced by the potenza s-03.

For the winter I run Dunlope Winter Graspic DS-1's. (195/65/15) They are a great winter tire. I have only had Blizzacs on my personal cars before and I like the dunlope better. It will hold if you through it sideways where the other would let you snap and spin. Even though they have a low speed rating they have held together for many 130+ runs.

Other tires I have liked

-Dunlope D A2's
-BFG's early 40 profile (don't think they make them anymore, where on my first set of 17's in '97(when 17's where big))

worst
-bridgestone badgers, I returned thin within a week of getting them

I have Toyo Proxes T-1S' and looks wise i like the tread pattern, the perform very well, the only downside i see is that they seem to wear awefully fast, im looking at replacing them either this winter or spring.

Why are you looking at new tires Peter? Is it because you are geting bigger wheels? If not, I wouldn't get different tires if I were you. You have good tread left and you cannot spin them. What more could you ask for?

I ran toyo proxies this summer and fall. I would spin them a little bit on a hard launch with the stutterbox but they would catch quick. I will have to see what I have on the car now. They are some kind of bridgestone if I remember correctly. Haven't beaten on them though. Depending on traction issues, I may swap to some drag radials in the spring or summer.

For the summer, get Sumitomo HTRZII's, I love mine and they are very reasonably priced.

The problem is that where I want to get rims they have a limited selection of tires.... Its either Toyo FZ4 or TS1's or Falken 512s or 451's or NItto 555 or Kuhmo 712s.

Heres the list.... Tires

Right now Im leaning toward the TS1's or the Kuhmo 712s I dont know how much each would be for an upgrade in the wheel/tire package. I sure standard tires are junk.

I put the yokohama something or others (h4 or something) on the red car I sold him, and now they are on the black car, I found them to be damm good tires for the price (225/50/16, something like $500 installed). On the stealth I am currently running a 245/45/17 contentinental extreme contract bs..i don't like them, this summer i'll be switching to a 265/40/17 bridgestone potenza re750.
andy, what are those tires called I can't remember (the ones on the talon)?
I've had experience with nitto 450's, they suck :razz2:

Don't get Cum-Ho tires.....as the name implies, they suck a lot of dick. Then again, so do most Toyo's and Nitto's (with the exception being the 555's). For those of you who don't know, Nitto is Toyo's cheap line of tires...and cheap they are. Nitto probably has more quality control issues than any other tire company. I know that the majority of 450 owners have had a tire buldge at one time or another. The Sumitomo's are the tire of choice up here with the Duluth-DSMers, we all love 'em and swear by 'em for the price. Do you your research and get the best tire you can within your budget. If you are by chance interested in my 17" GSX wheels, let me know...I am looking to get something different.

Paradas are not the greatest tire...they are meant more for show than performance. The NeoGen tires are meant for lowered Hondas with bad camber...no reason to be on a DSM if you do stuff right.

I have the Kumho MX's and love them. They are extremely sticky and handle great. Pretty decent in the rain until 1/2 wore, then gets a little worse. Nothing bad though. The 712's are crap though. The P7000 or T1S would be my pick if they can't get the MX's.

I have Yoko YK420 (whatever that is)...they are all-season. I love them. They are great in the winter and in rain, but having awd helps alot. I highly recommend them and Discount Tire usually has them in stock.

Tom - do not ever, ever, ever, ever, ever go to Tires Plus. Trust me.

I just bought some Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires for my new GSX. They'll show up tomorrow. I'm kind of pumped!!

Bring on the snow!!!

One of our MN 3/S members work at a Tires Plus, so I get all my tires mounted there. I love having someone I trust handle them. Otherwise, I'd stear clear of other Tires Plus shops.

later,
Curt
