Potential Buy 1997 GSX

To stop clutting up the other tuning thread with questions about the car I'm considering.

I thought I'd post up before I make the final decision and get inputs.

To start the current owner bought this car as a project and after looking at the photos of the day he picked it up boy was it ever. Still needs some work but it has Zero rust that i can see from all his photos of the underside as well as exterior and engine compartment other then on some bolt heads.

Car was built at ASAPerformance - was given photos of the build at there shop with his car in the background (license plate visible) first person i've talked to in 7months that could produce picts or a reciept for build.

Engine Management:
ECMLink v3 on Speed Density, AEM wideband gauge, AEM Boost gauge, Ingersoll Rand Boost Control Solenoid controlled by ECMLink

Engine Internals:

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX

Seems like a nice setup, do you mind posting the asking price? Understand if you don't, but it may help people tell you if it's a decent buy.

If you are going to retune for pump I would get smaller injectors, no need for anything bigger than 800cc and driveability would be a lot better. After selling the big injectors you would probably come out ahead anyway. But honestly of you have e85 anywhere near, I'd leave the tune as is, you'll lose a decent amount of hp going to pump. How much boost is that tune running?

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX

ya its red... every white one i find is way overpriced for the mod list, or it sells before I can get to it.

The body of this car and the interior need work (cloth interior i'm going to swap to all black)

but what has me sold on it is the build, its the first time in 7 months anyone i talked to about there car could provide proof of build, and wasnt done by the owner in his garage or a friend of a friend who happens to work on cars. etc etc.

I just want to have a tune for both 93 and E85. trying to drive 10hrs from florida to SC. on E85 would be difficult to say the least at finding gas stations.

The asking price is $6,000 for this particular car.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX

My ultimate plans come tax season next year if I do go with this car would be.
-Fix the body (previous owner had a body kit on it that the current owner took off as well as shaved the rear wiper but did a bad job of filling it in)
-Swap out the Interior
-Paint.
-New rims probably xxr 522, or 531's.

Depending on whats left - I might swap turbos or maybe a magnus v3 with there TB.

That seems like a good price considering he paid a reputable shop to do the work.
I'd pay that much for it. That turbo will do over 500whp dynojet for sure.

Yeah, that really looks pretty decent, I can't believe what people are asking for some DSM's these days. It's laughable.

Seems like a decent build sheet. Price seems reasonable. If it truly is rust free, that's worth a lot in my book.

I agree rust free makes it worth so much more and easily outweighs the interior.

No kidding. We should have put a bunch in storage back in the early 2000's and sold them for double today.

Ha, they're asking crazy amounts, I guarantee NONE of them are selling. They still aren't worth that much unless it's a low mileage original car.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX

I'm paying to have it dynod. The current owner is a police officer.

As far as some of the crap I've found over last 7 month. .
Last week.... 1995 white gsx (exactly what I was lookong for as far as shell goes) built motor, injen intake, safc, boost gauge, springs and struts, and exhaust. $6000 then after talking with the guy. Car can't be driven tranny is broke so no test drives,, no stereo, side mirrors don't work, no back seat, front seats are torn. And front bumper needs to be painted.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX

Also got some good news there is a guy who runs a salvage yard that's on tuners. Thats just north of Charlotte. That said he has most of the pieces I'd need if I ever wanted to go tan or black for the interior. Said he has over 200 eclipses in his yard. (Didn't get a response back yet though as far as pricing) but at least he's only about 1.5hrs from me and the over 1/2 the trip is on a back road I love (used to ride my R6 on it all the time before the kids ,very scenic)

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX

So been tossing ideas around on the interior of this car tonight. And am pretty sure I want to ditch the cloth interior for black.

But have a few questions. I have taken every interior panel off my old eclipse bit a few pieces.

And im not even sure they came in black. Please chime in.
black dash (never taken a dash out is it complicated?)
Roof liner and sunroof cover (did they come on black? How hard is it to swap out sunroof cover)
Carpet (did it come in black?)
Doors did they make an all black door?

Im pretty sure im going to go with some sort of colored piping inside either red, or silver
what Do you guys thing

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX

Yes all those things were made in black. Your first time pulling a dash will be a little time consuming, I've done so many at this point I can have them out in 20 mins (using air ratchets of course). I dont think the headliner would be hard either but I've never done one with a sunroof.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX

The guy at the junk yard said they never made an all black interior and then I saw one posted on tuners for sale. So I was some what confused.

I figured didn't really mater if they didn't make an all black interior but want pretty sure I could mix and match all the parts together as I really don't want to paint this interior.

I plan to do racing seats /belts in the future so that should also make it easier to find all the parts.
