Lightbulb Bio Fuel / E100?

First off, please move this thread if you think this is in the wrong section. But I was curious to know if anybody has ever stepped beyond home brewing and thought about making moonshine. Not for the purpose of drinking per say, but rather for burning. I am perfectly aware that it isn't exactly condoned or legal but I realize that there are many still kits out there, and thought, how expensive could it be to make my own ethanol fuel. Just a thought. Let me know if I'm crazy or just plain not gonna remotely come out ahead. Thanks! Cause I wouldn't mind switching all my toys from 87, 112 race gas premixed and other fuels I use, to my e85 or e100 levels I want to keep my car at.

Or you can just buy E98, I think I paid $250 for a 55-gallon drum shipped, but that was several years ago.

I looked in to it 2 years back and it is quite the process. Now that gas prices are back down, it is probably not worth it.

Re: Bio Fuel / E100?

Kick ass link and story. Thanks! The most important thing is that he expected under perfect conditions to get 8 gallons and didn't and had to re run that liquid. I guess right now it is way more work than it is worth, however when prices do go crazy, I am not above it in the least.

Re: Bio Fuel / E100?

It might have been a little less. But figure that included shipping by truck, so it was ~$3.50/gal. Not bad for E98 compared to the piss E85 you get out of the pump. I ended up only using 10 gallons or so and gave the rest to Ron Soliman.

I only got ~10 gallons from Ron.

I ended up giving him the ~30 gallons I had left in a barrel when I parted the Evo out.

Re: Bio Fuel / E100?

E98 should be cheaper than E85.

We sell E98 to VP and they turn around and basically quadruple the price since it's in a fancy blue VP barrel.

Re: Bio Fuel / E100?

I don't know if anybody here near the cities or MN/WI, has checked out Stone Lake WI Oil (715) 865-3143. They stock almost any type of gas in quantities as low as 5 gallons all the way up. And they DELIVER. For many MX seasons, ordered Sunoco 112 Purple until the local two stations started carrying Sunoco 110 and was happy with that compared to their old no name crap. Their pricing was reasonable and I was able to order every two weeks. I haven't however checked out their alcohol fuel pricing but I will certainly check it out soon.
