Roll bar requirements?
Ok I bought a roll bar for my car in case I ever run into 12 seconds (plus just to be safe if I ever bought racing seats)
I thought you needed a 4 point roll bar if you were in 12 second range (never raced before)
Now my dad told me I need an 8 point cage and I am not putting that in my car (way too much fab work) but that sounds a little extreme plus I know it is easy to get dsms into that time bracket.
I bought the roll bar from craig from his car
SO there has to be someone here that knows more about this then I do and pleeezzee chime in on this matter.
Plus just reading another one I have the battery relocated into the back, I am guessing I am going to need a cutoff switch? External?

Re: Roll bar requirements?
You won't need any sort of roll cage until 11.49

Re: Roll bar requirements?
11.49 to 10.0 under 135mph trap you need a 5 point ROLL BAR. Requirements are the hoop, 1 door bar running forward next to the driver, 2 rear bars running to a structural place in the rear, strut towers, frame. Harness bar is usually installed as well but I dont recall of hand if its required.
9.99 to 8.50 you need a 10 point ROLL CAGE.
Difference between roll bar and roll cage is a roll cage has a halo above your head and windshield bars that run down to the dash and floor/frame by your feet. As well as a dash bar that connects the 2 windshield bars.
Yes, like Aaron said, you will need a cut off switch. As well as a battery box if you do not have a dry cell battery.
EDIT: Forgot to add that every point you weld a bar to the body/frame needs a 6x6 plate of 1/8" steel.

Re: Roll bar requirements?
That must be new if it's right because just a year ago, 10.0 to 11.49 was a five-point bar with a door bar for the driver, none needed on the passenger side. If you run in Iowa, you don't need a rollbar until you're in the 6's.

Re: Roll bar requirements?
It's a 5-point roll bar for 11.49 to 10.0, unless it's a convertible, then you need it at 13.49. But, if the car traps 135mph+ then you are supposed to have a full roll cage like a 9 second car. A lot of tracks might not enforce the 135mph rule on a 10 or 11 second car though.

I was hoping to find out on a 12-second car, but I'm too lazy this year, it'll have to wait til spring.

Re: Roll bar requirements?
Yeah, 120mph meant low 11's for everybody but me, the 12.x king. I've got about 300 timeslips to prove my point.

Looks like i got some improving to do then, When these tires wear out i might actually get a set of real tires. These were the most expensive since the snow tires that came with the car $60 all 4.
Any Kerry read Ecoli's post, 13.49 you need the roll bar, then the rest is the same as reg. cars.
We need to get some DSMs together to roll to the track next year.
And I plan on needing a trailer for the first time in 4 years.

Thats as bad as my awd running 12.2-11.4@130+mph a few years ago, haha.
Gotta love the fear of grenading everything at the line.

Re: Roll bar requirements?
My wife probably has 4 or 5 12 second timeslips at 131mph with 2.1 or worse 60 foots from bad wheel hop. She was happy when she finally hit that 11.9 though.

Re: Roll bar requirements?
You do not need a passenger side door bar until the 25.5 7.50@180 funny car cage, but its nice to have the passenger side bar for equal strength and looks. www.NHRA.com, or here for more info on the all elusive "D" bar and how and when (not needed for 5 point but 8 point they are needed) they need to be installed.
http://www.nhra.com/content/general.asp?articleid=17519
Its nice to see someone point out the roll bar/cage difference.
