got my 1990 Plymouth Laser RT

The car is in pretty good shape... some things about it I'm kind of surprised about. The body could be in better shape, it's been rear ended by a slow moving vehicle (not too bad) and the front has some damage.... nothing to cry about.

Anyway the good things about it is... the tranny actually shifts like butter, I'm pretty amazed. The hatch actually stays up and the 4G63 engine doesn't valve tick at all.

When I got it however, it was running like dog shit and not boosting above 7PSI (according to the stock crappy gauge). I decided to do the plugs/wires and cylinder 1's plug wasn't screwed all the way in, heh. The 2nd cylinder from the right had a hole in the cable and was all corroded and when I took the plug out it was covered in oily gas. So I'm assuming it wasn't firing most of the time. Anyway I changed it and it still idles like shit but it pulls a hell of a lot better and boosts to 12PSI.

I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the problem I'm having. I think it's probably a vacuum line problem or the intercooler/pipes causing a vacuum problem. If I run the AC it idles a lot smoother at 900RPM's but doesn't like it when I have the AC off and it's trying to idle at 700RPM's. Anyway it's nice to have a 4G63 again

Checking for boost leaks should be your first step. My guess is the necks on your intercooler are coroded and filled with holes. If so, sand them down and cover them with a thin layer of JB Weld.
