Thanks, I am 100% happy with these springs! I hit some pretty wicked RR crossings and inclines yesterday over in Fort Worth and didn't scrape once.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
Quite the busy day today! First of all, huge thanks to Scheides and Spaz for giving me a hand with the mod installs this morning, and second thanks to Shane @ DB for sending me home with yet another great tune!
This morning we installed the AFE Stage 2 Dryflow intake kit, DB MBC, Nisei 1-piece UICP, and removed the clutch restrictor pill. Then it was off to DB to get a tune from Shane. Yes, Shane is the main reason Janelle and I drove the X up from TX rather than just flying. I'll post up some charts later, but it made 274 whp at 26 psi peak tapering to 18. This is a bit lower than I was hoping for, but still only 4whp below Scheides who does have a FMIC and the WGA arm tightened over my car. Out on the streets the car feels absolutely fantastic and I couldn't be happier with how it feels. Shane also made me a 91-octane alternate map for use when driving between Minneapolis and Dallas since most the country stations don't have good gas. The alt maps are ultra slick, I just hold down the cruise control button for 3 seconds to flip between the primary and alt maps.
As for the mods I chose, I couldn't be happier. The AFE intake fit perfectly as did the Nisei UICP which seriously looks more stockish than the stock UICP did since it's a single mandrel bent aluminum pipe coated in matte black. The DB MBC was coated by Primo in gloss black and also looks good in the engine bay. Although most guys with the X opt for electronic ECU-controlled boost, I chose to go the simple yet effective route. I've had nothing but great lucking using MBC's for the past 10 years so I figured there is no reason to not go with one; especially since I tried all the ECU methods on my IX and ended up going back to a MBC and being much happier. The stock clutch feels much more direct and responsive with that stupid pill removed too. It actually engages when I want it to and doesn't slip the clutch at all during a hard shift. Hopefully this will help my stock clutch live a long and healthy life.
I'll also add that the X is a fantastic roadtrip car, especially with the cruise control and satellite radio. So far I have ~1,700 miles since last Friday and by the time we get home on Sunday I expect to be nearing the 3k mile mark for the trip.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
I say my buschur exhaust is the reason i am so much higher than you guys, lol. Seriously though, was my car that strong? I made 302 whp with intake, testpipe, catback. Wonder what you guys are missing.
Sorry I didn't get to talk much at DB kracka, I had to try and get back to work, i was already gone for 2 hours for lunch, lol. Nice seeing ya though.

Impressive #'s! What sort of gas mileage are you getting?

According to the dash computer, 24 MPG driving from Dallas to Minneapolis with the cruise set at 85 MPH and 26 MPG driving from Grand Rapids to Minneapolis with the cruise set at 65 MPH. I expect the open filter and tune should help me get a bit better mileage so I'll update once we're back home. As a comparison, my IX got 27-28 MPG doing 80-85 and touched 30 once keeping it under 65.

It's actually identical to the IX GSR gearing (64 MPH at 3k RPM in 5th gear). VIII's are geared longer.

It feels awesome on the streets. Not as powerful as my IX obviously, but so much smoother and more enjoyable to drive. We sat in some pretty nasty stop and go traffic on 94 afterworks and it idled and drove perfectly smooth.
I didn't get a baseline number since I installed the MBC this morning and arrived at DB only running 11 psi (wastegate pressure).

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
No worries, good seeing you again too.
I do think the Magnaflow catback Scheides and I are running are eating up some power since they're baffled and not a straight-through design. I figured that when buying it though and I'm fine with it since it's so quiet for daily-driving which I really like. Your car could also be a freak too like my IX was; nobody has beat my IX stock turbo pump gas power @ DB yet (326whp).
I think my plan for the winter will be to add a nice FMIC (Perrin and AMS are at the top of my list right now, cast endtanks are a must for me), o2 housing and downpipe (Megan? Rexpeed? AMS?), and crank down the wastegate arm a turn then go see Shane again for a retune next summer.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
^Nice. Your car looked good...little dirty from the drive, but looked great, i love those side skirts, I might have to buy some.
Funny thing is how many people online said that i was crazy when i said my car was strong, because i used "rice math" to compare to their numbers. But after seeing lomker with a lot more bolt ons do the same power, scheides and you...maybe my car "was" strong, maybe thats why it blew up, lol.
So do you feel the tune big time? Usually the first one is always the biggest difference, then you get the diminishing returns.

Oh yeah, for sure. Spool-up is much more responsive and pulls are quite a bit smoother and clean feeling.

It'll get a good scrubbing once back in TX. I left home fully detailed, but all those highway miles, bugs, and rain really made it look like crap.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
pfft. Shitty mileage. The best my WRX has ever seen was on a road trip to Grand Portage last summer and I got 23.9mpg ALL highway miles. Usually averages about 22mpg highway.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
Woohoo gheyrodX! Congrats hughes, you have a damn nice car once again. I feel like shit that we forgot to do the wga crank mod, but it seems we hardly had time for the stuff we did do. Just think, if you had gone ecu-controlled boost, you wouldn't be able to do it w/o a retune. Now, you can just do it at your leisure, get some before and after logs, tweak the mbc if needed and you're doneski Or just wait till you get back, but I'd say its worth just doing on your own.
I'm still up in the air on your short-shifter. Maybe if I hadn't driven it through dead-stopped traffic I could have experienced it more!
Also, don't forget to cash those lottery tix! Hope you had a good bday man!

Thanks! It was a very fun birthday and I'll get those tickets scanned today.
I really wish I would have had you drive my car to Rogers to better experience the short-shifter; I do really like it. Oh well, we'll add that to the "next time" list too!

LOL no kidding! I swear, my TX plates saved me from getting pulled over twice this week by the always friendly MN Troopers. My guess is they wanted me for tint or front plate until they realized it's not a MN car.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
Awesomeness! Great numbers! The motor is still tight and new, Now go out and whip that horse a bit so you can free up some more horsepower. ;P
Yep, confirmed the X is a great road tripper, On my DD, you numbers on the mileage are identical to what I experince. One thing I did note though my 70 mph is the sweet spot for optimum mileage. (27 mpg)
As far as the numbers game goes on the dyno between cars, different days and different conditions, lets just leave it at that. Bummer Kracka did have a baseline to see how much power he gained, but timing is sometimes a bitch. Glad you were able to show off the new ride while in MN, wish I could have had a chance to drive it before you are gone. Have a safe trip home.. see ya in the SB.
