Mara/Shane's car makes 480whp on DB's dyno and 560whp on MAP's dyno with a stock, unported 6-bolt head with some basic springs (crowers) and hks 272's.
Another great route is just keep the s-afc and do cams, but sounds like dsmlink is on the way already

Link.. then sell AFC, then I'll buy the cams... then I'll need a hand putting them in

Why would you recommend a set of used HKS cams for 400 when you could have gears, retainers, springs, and valves on a 1g head for an extra 300.
Sure I will give it to ya, DSMlink would be more worth it, but good luck finding that type of a deal again. DSMlink isn't going anywhere, that head is...

+1 for leaving shit alone when it already works fine.
You could make good power with the cams and Link then you could save that 300 bucks for something worthwhile. Cam gears, retainers, springs, and valves aren't going to add much if any power. If the head is functioning just fine, leave it on and just toss in the cams.
ESchwanz, you're on the right track now!

Re: scheides old 2G
Wow, I wasn't by any means saying a built head is going to add power... First of all I didn't know it had a 1g head on it let alone a 6 bolt block.
I guess it is a difference of opinions, I just rather spend money on that head and wait a few months to save up for the link. Sooner or later you are going to want to rev it out to 8500+ rpms and you could easily do that with the head listed above.
I mean honestly is Link going to add THAT much POWER over a SAFC, probably not a whole lot...

Yes it is. Definitely a better investment at his level to get Link, then a built head.
Like everyone else said. I personally would get Link right away. It's a great investment. If you've never used it, you have no idea what you're missing out on.
After link I'd look at saving up some money and finding a set of decent used cams.
I personally would not downgrade your injectors. I'd keep the ones you have, or go larger in case you ever want to go E85.

Re: scheides old 2G
Do it!
Then if that head is still around a few weeks from now pick it up, then sell your current head for a couple hundred and its basically like getting used HKS cams for 400.

Hey what do ya think of the Apexi ECV? I got stopped for being too loud in Plymouth... & dont want it to happen again ...but I hate the plug style silencer, so is it worth it? do ya think it will make a difference? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/APEXI...QQcmdZViewItem

Re: scheides old 2G
I'd recommend having the exhaust cut and weld in a resonator or muffler, maybe where the test pipe goes. I never touched the exhaust on that car except to take off this:

It's yours if you want it

Re: scheides old 2G
A cut-out? Those things suck IMHO. Just get a nice resonator in there; it will make more difference than you think. Could also swich to a different muffler in back too, just did that on my Evo.

Love it!! Much more solid & the NLS rocks! Just need to bring it in to fine tune & get more out of it, but I'm gonna try to find cams first.
But first I need to correct the rear camber & get new tires back there cuz the inner treds are almost gone... didn't notice till it was on the lift... oops!
& b4 I get it aligned I also need to replace the front passenger inner tie rod. Fun Fun!! gotta love the DSM.
