Re: All Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show -- Sunday, August 24th
I've been looking at the sign up numbers. We have 106 so far. Here are some of the numbers by category:
1g 3/S 7
2g 3/S 11
1g DSM 6
2g DSM 16
3G Eclipse 17
4G Eclipse 6
Conquest/Starion 8
Evo 1-9 12
EVO X and Ralliart 12
I think we'll keep all of these categories, plus the "other", category this year. But with the low numbers for 1g 3/S, 1g DSM and 4G Eclipse, we'll just give a 1st place trophy for those three categories. Nine years ago, we could easily get 40-50 3/Ses and 40-50 DSMs at the Cookout. Times have changed!
later,
Curt

As of now, I plan on showing up. But I'm not a car show guy so I won't be there the whole time nor do I have a show car.

Re: All Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show -- Sunday, August 24th
24 Evo's is just sad especially with all the traffic on Evomn.net
I will be there, but my car has been on the back burner all year with the house purchase/projects

Re: All Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show -- Sunday, August 24th
I have to laugh a little bit about you guys saying you have house projects that take priority over car stuff. Last year I squeezed in custom building a house in the middle of planning and putting on the Cookout. This year I'm doing a million landscaping things and still doing the Cookout. All you guys have to do is clean one car and drive it there for a day. Time to man up. :P LOL

Without sounding like an ass.... I think they were saying that fun money has been diverted to house stuff, instead of cars lately, I know a lot of mine has since purchasing a house.
But it is rather sad that only 24 people with Evo's have signed up....

Yeah, I know. Things change, priorities change and likewise, where you spend your money changes. I'm fighting those same issues. That is why its been a struggle for me to still be putting on the Cookout. But I'm hoping I can spend more time/money on the car hobby once I get through the major house stuff.

Re: All Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show -- Sunday, August 24th
Not to be mean i have not been in a few years now i could really care less if i go and hang out in a parking lot now days. Also most people have moved on to other cars now days mitsus are dying out. I dont see many new young people buying them. Hell wed night meets have split up into small groups. Just 4 of us go to surly every week now days and the style cruises have taken a hit. I gave up and did the spring cruise a month before hand and there is no talks about a fall cruise right now. People are married now and have babys. Alys and my time is all abou the twins coming soon so car sit and the dd's get worked on not the fun cars any more.

There is no doubt that the folks who call Mitsustyle home have moved onto other cars or might not put their Mitsus on the top of the priority list. That part is accurate, but to say Mitsu cars are dying out wouldn't be accurate. Its just the local Mitsu community is more leaderless and disorganized and that is why events are suffering. In 2012 the Cookout had record number of cars with 176 registered and over 40 of them were EVOs. MAP really helped spread the word and EVOMN seemed well organized and there was real momentum. Last year and this year, some of those elements just don't exist.
Ron at RS has put on some nice Auto-x events on Friday nights, but that seems like the only real Mitsu events going on. But there are a ton of EVOs out there.
Another good example of what I'm talking about is the 3G Eclipses. They have a very passionate and active core group and they have been able to create a very large group at the Cookout. They've got 17 signed up this year. And you can make fun of their performance and what not. But they have most of us beat in the "enthusiast" department.

Re: All Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show -- Sunday, August 24th
Curt, you do a great job putting on this event. If I had a Mitsu I'd be there. I've been to it every year I was in town and able to. Numbers may be down, but 100+ cars is still a shit load of Mitsu's in one place at the same time. It's still a great event and we're lucky to have someone like you around.
Now that I have a Toyota, honestly there is nothing. I don't really know anyone else locally with a Toyota/Lexus except Kerry and Swifty, there's no community that I've found yet except maybe some stance dood's. If it ever turns into a All Mitsu & Toyota cookout, I'll be there
Very true though that the Mitsu community is not what it used to be. It no longer feels like a group/family, it's segregated, and really doesn't even feel like it's about cars anymore. It's too bad, but still a lot better than the Toyota/Lexus community.

Re: All Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show -- Sunday, August 24th
Keep at it Curt, I obviously haven't been since leaving MN, but it was always a great event! I'm trying to think back, but pretty sure I attended every year 2000-2009 (either entered a Mitsu or at least showed up to spectate). Mitsubishi not releasing a new enthusiast vehicle in nearly a decade is definitely going to hit participation in numbers, but I would not judge car enthusiasm from the attitude on this board. Also, much respect for accomplishing everything you have!

Re: All Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show -- Sunday, August 24th
Here are the finalized categories for the car show:
90-94 DSM
95-99 DSM
00-05 Eclipse/Stratus coupe
06-12 Eclipse
91-93 3/S
94-99 3/S
Evo I to IX
Evo X and 09+ Ralliarts
Starion/Conquest
Other Mitsu
The "Gene Helms" Cleanest Car Overall
They are the same categories as last year. But this year the 90-94 DSM, 91-93 3/S and the 06-12 Eclipse categories will just have a first place trophy. Of course the Cleanest Car Overall just has first. The other categories will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies. Also there is a Long Distance trophy. We will not be doing slow drags this year do to the tight space.

I think I've been to every to the cookout every year since I knew about it, even though I haven't had a mitsu for a while now. Still its fun to see all the cars and hang out with friends for a while.
Keep up the awesome work Curt!

Re: All Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show -- Sunday, August 24th
Only 4 more days until the Cookout. We are up to 134 signups: http://mn3s.org/wordpress/?page_id=1180
It is not too late to get signed up and come join us for an afternoon of Mitsu fun. The All Mitsu Cookout is coming up this Sunday, the 24th. We have some great prizes donated by Advance Auto Parts and Corporate Mitsubishi. We also will have plenty of food, and some fun stuff like the Mitsu trivia contest.
Here are some reminders:
1) Sign-up online. The page is at:
http://mn3s.org/lists/?p=subscribe&id=5
2) Fill out your car sign ahead of time. It saves a lot of time in the registration line. Download the sign at:
http://www.mn3s.org/car-sign.doc
And my example sign can be found here:
http://www.mn3s.org/car-sign-curt.doc
3) Bring some lawn chairs for hanging out and bring your appetite! We'll have plenty of food.
Also, if you are just coming to spectate, spectator cars (non Mitsus) will have parking on the frontage road in front of White Bear Mitsubishi.
Its only $6 for you and your car to be in the show and eat. Why not make the trip out to White Bear Mitsubishi!
Parking will be kind of tight at White Bear Mitsu. Here is a rough map of how we are going to park the cars: http://forums.mn3s.org/download/file.php?id=901 Based on sign up numbers, I'm sure some of these sections will need to expand. We will have a couple of people in the lot to help you park. Please park decent so we can maximize our space.
See ya soon,
Curt

I'll be there for sure! But like Rosey said, with 2 kids and a brand new house the funds just aren't there to get the dsm on the road for it this year.
