Having bad/leaking valve seals will not lower your compression, it would increase it, due to the oil leaking into the cylender and sealing the rings better. Its the valve seats that start to leak compression. So a simple head rebuild with new valve seals and lapping the valves will work wonders, get a new headgasket and ARP's and call it good. My car FWD would be all over the place untill I got over 100 in 4th, thats with 420whp though. That them there MPG is tempting though. :3gears:
