Re: New Plasma tv
I got a Panasonic 50" plasma about two years ago and I love it. One thing to ask about when shoping and comparing image and color quality is, some companies ship their display tvs with the color and contrast cranked so it looks good in the showroom. disapointment when you bring yours home would suck.

When searching online yesturday, i found settings for both sets that seem to be the accepted best settings to start with and adjust based on your room.

LOL no problem. That one caught my eye when i walked into BB last night but then realised that it was 720p.
I really dont think the samsung price will get any lower for black friday, if i were buying new i would have no reservations at buying for the simple fact that they have a low price guarantee. So i figure anytime within a month of buying the TV i would be able to go back on black friday and get the difference. Currently the tv New is $899. I wonder if i could get them to go lower on the open box price because black friday is coming up and i wont be able to get the price down lower at that time.
Anyone know what Best buys policy is on open box pricing? Do they negotiate at all on those?

Re: New Plasma tv
Are you sure the low price guarantee works for open box items? I wouldn't think it would.
Also it may happen on Black Friday that you could have gotten a 55" or 60" for what you're paying... Just something to think about.

Re: New Plasma tv
Interesting reading in this thread. I was on the LCD boat for awhile but I'm thinking about going with a 50" plasma, I had a lot of misconceptions about them.

Re: New Plasma tv
I don't know anything about TVs, we went from a LCD to a Panasonic 50" plasma a few years ago that was on sale. I don't have an complaints. It looks decent, has good blacks, hasn't had burn in problems and you can see it in different lighting conditions and from the side. With the LCD TV we had before, you couldn't be too far off the center before the picture got harder to see. The plasma set does seem to suck a lot of energy and weigh a decent amount.

Re: New Plasma tv
I have been reading up a lot on plasma vs LCD and found a good article. http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/p...ma-vs-lcd.html
Burn in Seems to be less and less of an issue as people have found fixes for it (Free fix is running snow for 30 minutes). The longevity is also no longer an issue as we have been seeing in comments here.
Whats funny though is that when i did a search on this site and some of the past threads the angle has switched from LCD to Plasma (I also am one of the switchers.)

Re: New Plasma tv
Jessica and I decided to wait until the black friday sale and will be picking up a 58" Samsung. Current price is $1400 but i figure it will come down that day quite a bit (hopefully).
But another thing that i also realised is that the samsungs do not have Component inputs. Strictly HDMI, which would be fine if my 5 year old receiver actually did more than HDMI Pass Through. So i will be scouring craigslist for a new receiver that does audio and video upconverting and audio/video HDMI. Found a nice DENON receiver that does everything for like $369, But ill keep looking around. What brands of receivers do you guys like?
My current receiver is a Onkyo HTIB system, Its actually a pretty decent system, 7.1 Surround Dolby DTS etc. I will eventually look toward getting new speakers sometime next year or after we buy a house (so i can throw some nice ones in the wall/ceiling.)

Re: New Plasma tv
Good plan on waiting till black friday.
Im not sure where you are seing that the new plasmas (samsung 50 or 58) dont have components. If i look at the pictures on bestbuy or the info on samsungs website for that TV it lists that it has 2 componant in's. The best buy specs in there compare info is wrong.

This is the one we are looking at.
NM i just looked at the back image now and i see Component. Funny how the description says 0 for component.

Well i didnt want to upgrade the receiver until i get a house with a designated home theater area. Im going to go balls deep on that setup so i would hate to go mid to low end just to have to replace later on.

Re: New Plasma tv
OK now choices....
Black friday ad supposedly came out with this
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+...&ref=39&loc=01 TV for 1499.99.
So now the question is LED LCD or Plasma.... yikes.
