I'll be gone for Baxter by then but it's cool...I went to O'Reillys and pulled the code with their loaner. Shane warned me about the plugs before I left DB and sure enough, it's not happy. If the M40XL's don't make it behave then I'll try swapping the stock coils on (some people say that the Okadas are actually worse than stock on the X).

Ok man, I'm heading down from Fergus Falls, so if you wanna meet up, I have it in the car with me. Shane will have his so I imagine it'll be NBD. I was hoping to have a box from tactrix in the mail weds, then thurs, then friday (USPS is kinda botching this one) with ODB2 extenders and SD cards for laptop-less logging, but no luck We'll get that going over the next week or two and you'll be able to do full logs while on track w/o any interuption/hassle

I'd imagine he's coming back on Sunday night. He might see me driving in the other direction.

They keep the track well utilized over the Summer--there's often a few events running at the same time.

Re: Evo X upgrades

The misfiring on my car is not a good thing but it runs well once it's hot.

I did a WOT pull from 2-3 on the way to work last night and I was like

So it looks like Shane didn't rev it out much yet? Waiting for the retune for that?

You going to use all 9k rpm's of the tach or what?

Re: Evo X upgrades

I was up a Brainerd a little bit on Saturday to see the NASA race and ran into shane there. Never seen a real race before. It is making me a little more motivated to work on my track car project.

Good luck up there!

Re: Evo X upgrades

My brother and I met up with scheides & Anna in St Cloud. He helped me to bump the idle up by 100rpm and that made the car much easier to deal with. It's still misfiring now and then but at least it stays running. I did a 1-2-3 pull in a deserted business district and it is beastly enough for me.

I had asked him to go 8k on the regular tune and I've run it up there a handful of times. The BBX is still making power so we'll go 9k on the "tune for numbers" next week.

So far there is no evidence of the car burning oil. Unless that changes I suspect that the turbo is fine.

Sweetness. Sadly though, you get used to the power after a bit. Lucky for you it just keeps going back for more, haha.

If idle is bad, keep going up till it gets better. Some rx7's idle at 2000rpm.

Re: Evo X upgrades

I did go up to BIR but I only got 8 laps in. It got to the point where it was misfiring even at high rpm and I just wasn't interested in abusing the motor.

I believe it! For the sake of expediency, I requested that Shane polish up my current tune and leave the power level where it is at for now. I dropped it back off at DB on the way home.

The good news is that the car feels awesome. The suspension setup is confidence-inspiring on the track and the tires didn't even squawk at the pace I was running (admittedly slow). It's something that I can grow into for the rest of the Summer...can turn up the wick later.

Stock coils and a set of HKS one-step colder plugs. I called around and none of the local Mitsu dealers had a set of new stock plugs in stock on Saturday.

The car never misfired when I was on the DW1000 injectors and the old tune. The misfires occur around 3k rpm so it shouldn't even be boost-related. You let off the gas approaching a turn and then go part-throttle to accelerate through it and pop.

I'm hoping Shane can iron the issues out with a few more hours on the dyno. If not then different injectors are going in. We're watering a plant with a fire hose. DW needs to release the 1300's that they have in beta testing. They'd be ideal.

You can't just go to Napa or O'Rielly's for spark plugs?

IX's and X's use specialty Iridium plugs that can be tough to find locally (X's especially). They're expensive, but they also last a long time (I swapped out my stock plugs at 46k miles and they still had plenty of life left in them).

You could talk to Chris at MAP and see if he could get you those DW1200's that I was going to test for them.

Since I won't need them I am sure they are still looking for someone to test them, plus you would get them for a smoking deal

For your levels the dw1000's should be fine anyway, I ran mine up to 420whp on Shanes dyno, probably 430whp with normal size tires/rims and still had a bit left.

Re: Evo X upgrades

If nothing else, at the power level you are at you could toss the 1000's back in for a while and just have shane tune you on them. Then you have a good solid car, and can swap in bigger injectors when you know there is a product that will work for you. Misfires are bad bad bad at this power level.

That's a definite possibility since I know they run perfectly. I have them at home instead of DB but I think I'll just give Shane a crack at getting the ID's to work.

Yeah but I like to plan for the future and not satisfice. The math gets tough not matter how you go about it...selling old injectors, buying new injectors, paying Shane by the hour, etc.

I talked to a guy with the new DW1500's and his symptoms are identical to mine (as far as warm starting, etc). The misfiring needs to be fixed but hard to say what others issues might remain. The DW1300's should be the perfect size if they tune like the 1000's...getting a set is definitely on the option list.

Plugs on the X are stupid. $18/ea for stockers ($22+ for aftermarket). I don't think it's the problem anyway but it was Shane's suggestion to try new plugs.

Yea misfires are the suck...

I ordered plugs from AMS and got them in like 2-3 days. No dealers stock them, they all have to order them and they are very pricey.
