The only way it could be making that noise is if that lightweight aluminum is working like a tuning fork!

The Ultimate Racing filter that I'm using is noisy so getting rid of it wouldn't break my heart.

First part, a tuning fork isn't mounted on both ends. one end vibrates freely in the air, so it's not doing that, it's just bumping into something or vice versa.

And how can a fuel filter be noisy? And how can you hear it above the engine noise?

Yeah, I knew that but I did waste some time trying nylon washers on the mounts. It ended up being the BOV not having enough clearance on the underside of the bar. While standing over the engine bay I couldn't really see the thing...it was obvious once I kneeled and looked at it outside where there's more light.

Anything that vibrates on or near the firewall is audible from the driver's seat at idle. Pretty frustrating to locate these sounds, actually...you pop the hood and listen and hear/feel nothing. You then sit back down in the driver seat and it's as obvious as all get-out. I wasn't the one who figured out it was the filter (I never would have thought of that), it was Ron. He quieted it down quite a bit by adding some rubber.

You'll be chasing down rattles all day in a mitsubishi.

Especially with a poly motor mount, lightweight flywheel, and a 6-puck clutch. Good luck to you sir!

Yep, if you wanted a car with good fit and finish you should not have bought a Mitsubishi.

ROFL. I haven't installed the poly mounts and I'm not sure if I will. Now that I'm use to the clutch it is pretty tame. I've killed the motor a couple times during parking lot maneuvers but no big deal.

I don't have a problem with periodic noises but constant vibration/noise that I obviously created is another story.

Motor mounts coupled with aftermarket cams are only going to shake your car loose. Add in stiff(er) suspension, a stiffer clutch, a driveline that has had rubber bushings replaced with urethane/solid ones... Eventually you'll be expecting trim pieces to be falling off over every bump.
