daaaaang that is some LIFT! Are you going to need to use valvesprings that require replacement every month?

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
nah, just the ones I have in there. Schneider HD springs. 100lbs seat pressure.
And I looked into my coolant pushing problem today and I think I found the problem.
Here's left to right under the intake manifold:
the head gasket looks delaminated right there, and I'm pretty sure it has to be coming from there since there was coolant all over the lower part of the intake manifold and everywhere on the engine crossmember, motor mount, frame rail, etc.
So, I asked around and my best bet for holding big power is to take the block out, completely strip it down and get it o-ringed.

Diesel technology FTW!! My brother runs 80+ lbs of boost with his truck and it can take it all day long.

Well, diesel or not, I'm thinking it's the only way to go, and I should have done it when it was in the shop before. Oh well. Winter project.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
I finally got the engine out after struggling yesterday. I had to use a 1/4" ratchet with an extension through the clutch fork hole to take all the pressure plate bolts out of the flywheel. The motor and tranny wouldn't separate because the pilot bearing was stuck on the input shaft and the clutch splines are smaller than the OD of the bearing. So, got it apart today and took the head off the engine. The head gasket wasn't really blown, but you could clearly see on almost every cylinder where the head was lifting and leaking horsepower. I'm pretty excited for the o-rings now, and the cheap head gaskets I can use!!

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Well you all kind of know where my car was at until a couple days ago. I had a blown passenger side front shock so I bought some Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable shock inserts for the rear of a second gen MR2. They are shorter than the stock ones by quite a bit and the stock replacement tokico blues that I had were even too short for the housings (see the spacers on the bottom of the blue ones?).
So I cut off the stock spring perch and cut a 62mm section out of the middle of the shock housing, then welded it back together, adding a steel ring around the body to serve as a base for the sleeve coil over.
So the car has a static (almost) 2.5" drop if the springs stayed where they are. It allows the car to be slammed and still have suspension travel, which might be what killed my old shocks. That or the scores from trying to hold the shaft with a pliers (like an idiot).
Anyway, I'll get these on the car tomorrow and see how low it can go. My plans for the car right now are re-do the exhaust so it doesn't sag, install an idle control motor so any dummy can drive it like it was a normal car, install the good torque tube I have for it, tune up the brakes, and for asthetics, get new front tires that match the rears better. Another muffler might be in the works also. So I will take some more pictures when those things happen, but for now the new shocks should be awesome, and the ability to lower the car another 3" from where it's at will require some camber plates and hopefully some roll center adjusters.

Damn, nice!
What's a torque tube? Is that like a 'power band' ?

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Well, good news, it's all in and the car feels great, but even on setting 1 I can tell the car is more bouncy in the rear. As for power, I just got my hands on a sweet HKS super ultra mega hella flow fliter. Should be good for 50hp. After I get an idle control motor, install that tube, or as they say in England, "chube" then redo the exhaust, it will go back for more powa.
Need enough power to bang the rev limiter in 2nd like it does in 1st. I love skating the back end around infront of porsches and other spendy cars. lol.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
It's a visible transformation from this to this
I've seen it clearly several times. And to be clear, I don't endanger other drivers/cars/peds.

Well booger me crooked! Look what I made.
So nice now. I also put on a magnaflow muffler and it's so nice. Good sound and quiet.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Nice work, recirc is great. I like how it connects a little ways down instead of right at the top. How's the car running these days? I haven't seen much of it lately.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Awesome! Maybe making an appearance at the fall dyno day? I can't wait to see what this thing does now!

I'm receiving a lot of unwanted and unpaid time off, so funds for the dyno day might be tied up elsewhere.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Did running even with a stockish c5 z06 motivate you to slap on more parts?

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Well, I had already gotten pretty bored with it. Didn't spin in 2nd unless it was cold, or there was cement, or it was wet out, or if I dropped the clutch, or if I was turning a corner. So, now it should do that. Here's the results from today, with a couple pictures to do the talking.
First:
Then adding a pound:
And as you can see there was a problem, which is shown below:
Also fuel pressure was dropping on that last pull, so the pump is probably done flowing. I had all kinds of little issues like this. The idle control was difficult to get right, and it's pretty nice, but has a little random surge, you should hear the camming though. Not like an evo, but pretty wicked for a quest. The blow off valve has an o-ring on the plunger that broke and was holding it open, so after ripping that out it leaked just a tiny bit, but the next run was more power and more awesome. Then my crappy welds broke and ended the fun, but nothing is mechanically wrong otherwise. Gaining about 15hp per psi, so by that math at 30psi I'd be around 510whp.
Given the clutch's rated capacity of about 545 torque, I'd be pushing it at 500+. Not only that, but the rods, transmission, u-joints, all that stuff. But with the out-of-steam pump, the 1000's that were at 92% and broken CAS drive, more than 450 isn't really in the cards. And holy crap. 450whp. I'm flabbergasted.
