Yea...so there's your problem...

(I don't own this car, I'm just posting pics and explaining until my friend can get on the site and post)
So, this past spring I believe, my friend purchased a goregeous 1g from one of mitsustyle's longstanding members (I am sure most of you will recognize it). The car performed amazing all summer, and saw it's fair share of hard driving. Well the hard driving caught up to it, and this is what resulted.

SO yea thats the damage. You would have to ask the driver the whole story, but from what I heard it hit a mad boost spike and just blew a hole right in the piston. The plans for the future are-
-built lower end
-possible built head (old one may or may not have a bent valve)
-hks 272's
-maybe new turbo? (has a greddy 20g on it now, doesnt seem to have caught any of the metal from the piston, spins freely)
-a new dyno tune, and dyno'd to see what numbers it's putting down.
Once my friend get's back on the site, he will have more to say. I will try to update with pictures when he can't.

Wow, it almost looks like that piston melted. I've never seen one like that before.

Boost spike doesn't equal hard driving.

Like I said, until the owner gets on the site and explains what happened, you guys won't get the full story. I just know that he wasn't going easy on it.

Re: Yea...so there's your problem...

So heres some more pictures of what happened. I guess a tube from the wastegate fell off and sent the boost up into the 30's, and that was on a stock shortblock.

We are in the process of rebuilding a shortblock, should have it going in a week or two. We are putting 272's in a fresh head, and throwing a holset on it from eventually.

btw sorry for the crappy phone pics

^^ I agree. Anyone else think it could it possibly be a detonation issue?

So thought I would update this thread, has been a while. Dane and I have been working on both our cars and have both of the 1gs going now. Here are some updated pics of his 1992 Eclipse Gsx. Car has some bugs that are being worked out, cams sound good in it.

Re: Yea...so there's your problem...

His plans for the near future are to have a shep put in. There's no room in the budget for it now. We have a spare tranny, that was in the car last year that worked fine and withstood the abuse. So that's going back in the car. It needs something built though.
