GMC going downhill?
In 2010 (2yrs from now) will we be expecting ALL cars to be 35MPG? Will that law pass? Law-makers say it's a high chance it will. Leaked.
GMC:
*General Motors announced they will build a cheap city car for $8,000 using motorcycle parts. It measures the costs down and also make it easier for manufacturers to put the car together in the assembly line. The car is expected to carry a drive train similar to a motorcycles' and will be ready within a few years time.
*Chevrolet Camaro will be powered by a V6 engine. General motors starts learning from Ford, that most exactly from Mustang's success: V6 models are the key to strong sales. Camaro coupe goes on sale in Feb 2009, 3.6L producing about 281 hp.
*GM also announced it will use Chinese car company Wuling which manufactures vans and pickups for around $3,000 and is partly owned by General Motor.
Gas price is expected to be $4.00 range in the year 2010. -GM's vice chairman of global development Bob Lutsz.

Re: GMC going downhill?
Seriously can you quote a source??!? the past two threads you have used the copy and paste, but no source of where you get your info from. PLEASE give people credit for their research.
Thank you.

Re: GMC going downhill?
Won't this be the same shit that happened before? Having a set MPG limit and companys being able to write-off their "work" vehicles that get under 30, 20, etc.. MPG? I'm pretty sure that will be the case, again.
Aww..And I was hoping to get an Excursion to drive my 6'0 self around, by myself, with plenty of empty space!

Re: GMC going downhill?
I doubt if the 35 mpg will pass, it's way too big of a jump from current standards and people love their SUV's. The V6 Camaro thing is a natural though, and already expected. I've got a V6 '05 Mustang and it's got plenty of poop for most people. The high performance engines will sell in smaller quantities, but there's more profit margin in them for GM.

Re: GMC going downhill?
All it means is they will have to product cylinder shut off technilogy(sp). wait they all ready have that.
The thing is you only have to produce the capability to get 35mpg. Everyone knows you almost never hit it. A least I never do the way I drive.

Re: GMC going downhill?
I find is a little weird that Toyota hypes a 29/35mpg 2008 Yaris as good. You can get mid 40s with a 1992 Civic.

I think plug in-diesel/electric hybrids are the best bet for the future, diesel cars can easily get 50 MPG now, but combined with plug in hybrid technology, they would be ridiculously cheep to run
