Cable or Directtv?

What service do you guys prefer? I have always been with TimeWarner Cable for as long as I can remember but they don't have any channels that interests me. I was thinking of getting DirectTv with their 12 month special going on right now with 155 channels for $39.99. Cable service has always been good in reception as to hearing about satellite services getting bad signal during storms. Any opinions or thoughts on this? I'm not really into those sports/movies or music channels, just something better than 13 boring channels.

Pretty decent if you ask me.

I have the same thing and it isnt to bad, seems reliable and the internet is decent.

However, once the 'promotional' price runs out in another month the price will go up by about 50% for me. I suppose I will have to threaten to quit and stuff to try to continue the good pricing.

I have never personally had any type of satellite service but I know people who have and I wasnt impressed. Storms give shitty reception and the DSL that I used was pretty bad too.

Re: Cable or Directtv?

Charter for everything as well. Thought it was a godo rate till I wa about to cancel that they damn near cut everything in half for the cable tv charges. The only reason I will stay with Cable next year is if NFL network reaches a deal with a the Cable companies. Otherwise I'm stepping up to some deep dish.

Re: Cable or Directtv?

Time Warner got bought out by Comcast, there are some things changing. I have had direct TV and it was alright, but you totally lose picture in even a moderate storm. That sucks because there isn't anything else to do unless you keep some decent movies around or play video games.

Dish: Better picture, more channels, cheaper.

I pay 60/month for just cable internet. I hate Comcast, but it is my only option.

Re: Cable or Directtv?

I've heard a lot of people hate Comcast as well. When did buy out TW? is the RoadRunner internet shit gonna stay the same, cause that was probably the best cable internet in the TC area I think.

That's the only downside I have with changing to a Dish. When it's bad outside I want to be inside watching tv. Well that goes to shit if I have Dish.

Re: Cable or Directtv?

Roadrunner internet has all been switched over to Comcast internet (at least in this area it has) and it really doesn't seemed to have changed much, although its supposed to be faster now.

Re: Cable or Directtv?

I get comcast now, my bill is like 140 dollars a month for everything and unlimitted internet. The picture is perfect and the service has been great and my HD DVR is fucking amazing... however the price hurts... a lot.

Anyway now that comcast has been taking over TW's territory they've upped their download bandwidth to 12Mb *burst* as opposed to 6Mb. At any rate I live in Edina with a bunch of old people around me and I download consistantly at 1Megabyte per second.

If you go with the cable solution and you have HDTV request the Scientific Atlantic 8300HD PVR... that's the only important information I have to offer.

Re: Cable or Directtv?

We have also been switched over to Comcast fully. Internet seems the same and I now DL at 8.5 mb/s. Not bad! That was on a speed test out of IL. Regular cable and internet is about $85/mo. Digital cable was right at $100.
