Sorry man, you aren't going to see a 12 mpg difference in gas mileage. The mid 30's must have been on a short fill or your tires are a different size or something.

Re: DSM gets 9mpg...

I check my mpg every single time I fill up and my old FWD would get over 30 anytime it was hwy driven and it would get low 20's in the city. It was in the neighborhood of 10 mpg difference.

The awd got 19 mpg religiously in the city. 23-24 on the hwy.

closed loop seems to be the culpurt to the change in gas mileage according to the keydriver guy.

i thought he accidently burned the chip to lean, but after he looked at the log, he said closed loop was causing the increase in mileage.

I don't need a tech 101 lesson. For a DSM to go in closed loop it needs to be at a fairly constant speed, engine RPM and no drastic TPS changes. All DSM's should be running at closed loop on the highway, so there isn't anything special about yours. If you truely are getting mid 30's for gas mileage, you had better have an EGT. You are very lean. On a FWD it is doable because of the taller gearing, lighter weight, and less drivetrain loss.

Get a good probe such as the GReddy or TRE, the Autometer probe is very slow to respond.

Re: DSM gets 9mpg...

yeah, if you get off the hiway, and you've been nice to your car, and your exhaust manifold glows like a champ, that would be your first clue....
