Drivetrain slack

I don't know what is up with the slack in my drivetrain awd but I feel like there is more and more slack building up between the front and rear end. Everytime I shift gears I can feel the slack before it kicks in and the car moves forward. I drove other dsms and they seem like they don't have as much slack as mine. Is there a way I can find out what is causing the slack?
