Re: Scheides is a closet Audi lover
It's nice, but not terribly fast. I pulled 275whp and 385lbs to the wheels with it. It's a torque monster. That's all with the stock K03 turbos, which are even smaller than scheide's peeper.
The problem with the Audi mod community is everyone that makes parts for them are greedy assholes and they want you to buy their "kit" for some obscene price. Some guys were charging over $20k for a kit that gave you just over 400hp.
I think the motor has a lot of potential, but up until recently there was no way to tune the car yourself. Sure you could buy injectors and turbos, but you'd have to pay someone $2000-3000 to burn you a new chip tuned the way you wanted it. A company called 034 Motorsport just released a standalone ECU for it, similar to the EMS that allows you to tweak anything you want. But, it's $2600 after you're done buying all the stuff to make it work.
Parts are starting to come down in price, but they are still up there. My downpipes cost me $1600, and the catback was $1000. And I still had to make some modifications to it to get it to flow properly. The motor itself has some interesting parts already on it, dual EGT sensors, a knock sensor for each cylinder so timing only gets backed off on the cylinder that's knocking, VVT, etc.
