Bad vibration at 55mph

1991 GSX 5sp.

This problem has been apparent since I bought it. At 55 mph, and +/- ~3mph, the driveline vibrates like hell. Shakes so bad it makes the whole car shudder basically. I tried the "$5 driveline thump fix" or whatever on vfaq, and it helped a little, but it sure as hell didn't eliminate the problem.

While i was underneath the car, I noticed that the rear boot that holds the driveshaft was basically crap. Lots of tears - you could move the driveshaft in all directions at least 1/2", if not more. Like I said, putting caulk in it over a day helped it a bit, but it didn't get rid of it.

Now, with my experience with my quest, I know that if the driveshaft is taken off, then put back on at a different place then when it was taken off, then a vibration can occur. I remember reading it happens at 55mph too. I was wondering, is the problem just that boot, or could the driveshaft be bolted on 'wrong'?
