Bad vibration at 55mph
1991 GSX 5sp.
This problem has been apparent since I bought it. At 55 mph, and +/- ~3mph, the driveline vibrates like hell. Shakes so bad it makes the whole car shudder basically. I tried the "$5 driveline thump fix" or whatever on vfaq, and it helped a little, but it sure as hell didn't eliminate the problem. While i was underneath the car, I noticed that the rear boot that holds the driveshaft was basically crap. Lots of tears - you could move the driveshaft in all directions at least 1/2", if not more. Like I said, putting caulk in it over a day helped it a bit, but it didn't get rid of it. Now, with my experience with my quest, I know that if the driveshaft is taken off, then put back on at a different place then when it was taken off, then a vibration can occur. I remember reading it happens at 55mph too. I was wondering, is the problem just that boot, or could the driveshaft be bolted on 'wrong'? |

It's hard to see the wear on your carrier bearings while it's in the car. It takes all of 20 minutes to take off your Tcase, the drive shaft bolts and to slide the shaft out of the diff. Look closely, I think the bearings are pretty spendy also. |
Re: Bad vibration at 55mph
are the weights gone from the driveshaft? its a very common thing for the carrier bearings that hold up the driveshaft to be worn out.
