Clutch Problems

I installed my engine and tranny and everything. When I went in the car the clutch pedle was on the floor and I pried it up and the pressed it in and it stuck to the floor. So I "bled" the line(im not sure how i just guessed to lazy tonight to look how to). That helped it so it didnt stick to the floor. Now as it sits 1/2 was is way way easy(almost falls by itself) then the rest is semi hard. I have the ACT 2600 and ACT streetlite. Do you think i just need to bleed the line? or could it be something bigger like the slave cyl? or whatnot.

Properly bleed the system and go from there.

I had that same issue with my honda..You didn't plug off any of the lines when u installed all of that stuff? Basically, you need to just keep bleeding the brakes. It took me 1 hour, 6 minutes to do it, but eventually, it will work out. You just have a buttload of air in the system right now..no worries!

The bleeder is on your slave cylinder. Its easier if you have two people doing it but you can do it by yourself by pumping the clutch up and then putting a board inbetween your seat and the clutch while its pressed down. Then go to the front of the car and loosen the bleeder on your slave cylinder and repeat.

From what you are describing though and if you bleed the clutch with no results then I would guess your clutch master cylinder is bad or is going bad. Get in the car and look up where the clutch master cylinder comes through the firewall and see if there is any fluid leaking down the firewall. If there is most likely its bad. If there is no fluid it still could be bad as well. I doubt your slave would be causing your problem but I wouldn't rule it out totally. You should need to bleed your clutch for an hour though, I would say ten times and if there is no bubbles coming out then your are good. If your clutch is still the same then change the master cylinder.

I'm guessing it's a 2G? You might have to adjust your pedal. I know after I did a clutch in my old GST I had to adjust the pedal 3 times before it would keep pressure. I would adjust it and it would be fine for a little while then it would start to lose pressure and start slipping.

Ok so i bled the clutch. Now the car runs and all but the clutch is still messed up. When I push the clutch in its fine but I cant put it into gear. It goes but its hard and when I start letting off the clutch it releases like 1 inch from the floor. Whats wrong. Could I still have some air in the sysem of is there something else I need or what?

Did you adjust the rod yet? Do that first if you already bled the system.

Adjust the rod? I didnt know I had to. How do I do that?

Yup, sounds like your master cylinder needs adjusting. Check the VFAQ, there should be instructions with pictures. Its pretty easy though, all you'll need is 10 or 12mm open-end wrench (I think its a 10, but I'm not positive). A set of pliars or vise-grips would also come in handy....and a flashlight.

Ok so I bled the clutch and adjusted the thingy. The clutch was fine, for like 50 miles. Then it started to get sluggish. Then the pedal started sticking to the floor again. Could this be because there is still air in the lines? Or should I just go out and buy a new slave?

Try adjusting it again. Like I said before, mine did the same thing. I just kept adjusting it and after a few times it was fine. Or you could have ghost pedal.

On very light foot pressure on a 2G the pedal drops to the floor all by it's self. ?? Yes. On a regular pedal push, the seal seals fine and the clutch works normally. On a very light push, the seal does not seal well and fluid will bypass it. Since the 2Gs have a heavy assist spring, the additional assist is enough pressure to keep the pedal going towards the floor all alone. Quite disturbing to watch. Replacing or rebuilding the master cylinder will fix this.
