back in the saddle again
|
Well the body shop and my insurance company have been going back and forth and have reached an agreement. They are fixing it. The engine bay was straightened back out (radiator support was buckled) and nearly all of the car is being resprayed (hood, bumper, pass fender, pass door, pass rear 1/4 panel, roof, and maybe rear bumper and trunklid as well as wing). They are totaling 2 of my rims from scratches, so that will help with deductable (taking cash and running). It looks like I am getting a new dash as well, and should have it back next friday or so (2 weeks give or take). Days like yesterday I missed it, as it was simply beautiful outside, today, well not so much . Just posting this up for those that care.

Thats cool that it worked out. What happened to the dash that you need a new one? Deer come inside to join you or what?

yup, and it destroyed my dash vents as well.
They are buying me a used one (im jumping for joy, not!!) and if its not perfect I am going to try to see if they can cut me a check for a new one ($350.xx). That'll buy me aluminum dash vents and a dashmat, problem solved!

In my experiences, I was able to keep the money and have it fixed at my own shop of choice. Then, I would buy all used parts, do what I can, and pocket some money after the body shop finishes it. I have never had that much damage done to my car though and it was never my fault. The most recent was when I was rearended in my 86 accord. the car had already been rearended 2 times prior (me having fixed the work when it was my moms car). The insurance quote to fix was $1000 at lehmans. I took the money and ran. $20 later (bondo) the car looked fine. Good to hear they didn't total it though.

The only problem with doing that in a more major incident is that if something is found that they didn't know about, then you are hosed. Glad to hear it is working out Josh!

I would have done that but for 2 things.
1) the car has a loan on it, and the check would of been made out to the loan instituation before me.
2) the damage was so great that I wasn't sure what to expect, the original estimate was $5200, now the 'bill' is just at $7000 and still climbing.
and this is will all used/factory parts no special rims, no cf panels, no nothing.

doesn't matter to me, its the insurance company thats getting screwed.
It will cost me less than $614 to get nearly my entire car repainted, pretty cheap when you realize my paint is a multi-stage pearl.
($500 deductible and $114 for towing, the body shop guy is trying to help me 'cut corners' to help cover my deductible). I also found out recently they are totaling my 2 rims that are scratched for nearly $400, so we are down to $214 or so now for a full paint job, going for even money baby :woowoo:
