The guy at discount tire said 18" wheels but I don't think that is right. I will report back after my lunch break which I am taking in 15.
They are at least 17"'s if not 18"'s though but tire rack seemed to say 17's.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette
Depends which model you have...check your tires and report back
Those Pirellis sound like very good tires and get great reviews/ratings. If you wanted to go a bit cheaper, you could check out the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum. Both currently have mail-in-rebates available on TireRack.

I put some sort of kumho's on my accord dd last time, they work ok, nothing special though. But that comparison doesn't do much as its totally different circumstances.
Anyway, tire size is 235/45/18.

That comparison does no good unless they were the same brand and line of tires.

Murlo, if you can look at set of Michelin's with a high silica content, they are excellent in the all weather conditions we have in this state and wear very well for the money.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette
Just remember, that even if a tire has a treadwear rating of 700, that typically means the tread is going to be stiffer than something lower which will result it decreased traction. Don't solely look at a tire as an option because of a high treadwear rating.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette
When I first got my evo8 I had continental ContiSportContact all-seasons. They were fantastic. Maybe look at something with not such a high wear rating as that will basically lead to more suck when the snow is deep and ice is present.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette
I didn't look at the P7's because of treadwear, only because I was recommended it at discount tire.
Looking through tire rack at my tire size, all the reviews seem to say the p7 is the best in its class and its priced reasonably compared to everything else.
I think I am probably going to jump on those, nothing else seems to be jumping out at me.
edit: ordered them, guess we will see what happens
I checked my tires too just now, the most I have is 4/32 and many spots are a bit below that, yikes.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette
4/32" is fine for most summer driving conditions, but smart move replacing them before the snow flies.

Yea, like I said that was the best anywhere on the tires, most were 2/32
Tuesday when it was raining all day, 70mph on the freeway and my car was floating on the water, was kinda scary. I had to drive to map going 60mph, took forever!
Yea, I think with snow coming its time to get new tires, these made it almost 30,000 miles, not bad for OEM tires, I think they are 340 wear or something so not sure if that is normal or not but its time to go.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette
Useful information here. I need to replace the tires on the Escort, they have been sucking the past year or so. Fortunately we don't put many miles on it, maybe 10k/year, so I don't care too much about treadwear, 40k miles out of a set will be plenty.

IMO the general altimax tires are a decent all season tire but suck for winter traction.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette
Wow, I should have looked at the tire rack ratings first, they do have horrible snow ratings.
2nd place in All Season Standard Touring is the Firestone Precision Touring at $63/ea, about half the cost of the 1st place Michelin Defender at $114/ea. Looked at the P7 but they don't make it in a 15" wheel.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette
I just got the Pirelli P7's put on last week, loving them so far, comfy, road noise is decent and they still handle well enough for a DD tire.
The real test will come in heavy snow/rain and we will see if they work out. I don't expect snow tire performance, but just the ability to not die
