Re: GT5: anyone get it?
im kind of dissapointed. it lacks alot of little things i would like to have seen.
all the upgrades cost the same for any car ive seen so far.
some cars a 30k turbo kit adds 8 hp, but the 3.5k header adds 12 hp.
poor number of event choices and used car choices.
personally i dont like the music or most of the menus either.
tons of cars but not alot of choices, aka many versions of the same cars.
also for as many cars as their is, there is alot of cars left out that would have been nice to see.
the game is fun enough to play but i feel like they could have improved alot of things.

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
I'm mostly disappointed now that I've had more time with it. After all those years of devealopement it still seems something is missing. (ign gave it a 8.5, while Forza 3 got a 9.4)
On a side note, 3D is pretty sweet.

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
I bought it and am level 17 currently. I like it a lot, physics are a lot better than Forza IMO and looks better too. Only gripe I really have is the way the premium/standard cars are setup.

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
The only thing better then forza is the scenery, and a few of the "special races". The dealership/used car set up is stupid, and so is the fact you cant purchase or sell any cars online. I feel very little difference in the actual driving in game and the modding process also sucks. I always said I was going to buy a ps3 when this game came out, but imo it's not really worth it. I think the guys behind Forza could put out a better game in 12 months compared to... 6 years? And I'm not being biased one bit, I was excited as shit for this game but had a feeling it wouldn't live up to it's hype.
That being said, it's still a good game. But definitely not the OMFGBBQAWESOME!!1!11!! everyone was expecting.

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
I have it and absolutely love it.
I have played almost every racing game/simulator under the sun. I am reasonably sure, that GT5 is by far the best racing simulator. The only thing better in gravel is dirt 2. For those super-hardcore, there is GTR.
If you don't own a wheel - you don't even have a right to critique the game. Its like saying "I have banged a million women" when in all reality you are still a virgin.

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
I'm a Forza addict that use to be a huge GT fan. After making the jump from GT4 to FM2 a couple years back, I was blown away at what I was missing. If I'm reading that GT5 drives like GT3....well I can happily say I won't be buying it. GT has always had the car count there, but the actual physics were always lacking, along with a bunch of other things (release dates?). Forza 3 might not have some of the cars some want, but the physics in that game will always keep me back racing. At least until FM4....

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
I played GT5 at Rosey's this weekend. It's pretty good, but still has a bland watered down feel when it comes to physics and how the car feels. It plays like a game, not a simulator. I'd rather play Forza 3.

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
playing with the steering wheel does make it THAT much more better. If you're playing with the controller, you're not getting much....kinda like you'd rather jack-off than do the real thing if you know what i mean.
Anyways, the game feels pretty great so far. I haven't driven high powered cars yet. Haven't had much time this weekend. I don't really like how the Miata can be easily over steered with the medium sport tires after corner exits...or I'm just a awesome noob when comes to driving a rwd car in gt5. GT5 definitely does not feel like GT3. Yes, if you have the controller, it will feel like GT3 i guess, but totally different story when you have a solid steering wheel. Haven't had much to review on the game because I haven't driven, modified, and played any awd, rwd, fwd vehicles yet but the game is far more better than gt4 so far, especially with the online play.

Simply put, it's not a game. That's the most straight forward way I can compare the two. Which I guess is the reason I prefer Forza over Gran Turismo.

Hmm. I have a home theater PC so I guess I'll have to try plugging the chair in over there. Might need a hardware upgrade, tho.

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
Wow, sounds like a lot of people are kind of underwhelmed by this game. Things I never liked about previous GT's, and I'm sure the new one isn't a whole lot different are; 1) Even when traveling at 135mph, it feels like you are doing 30mph. 2) customization of the cars. You get SOOO much more open control of the customization aspect of the gameplay. I have owned every GT 1-4 and played Forza 3 a fair amount and just in the few hours of Forza, it blew away GT 1-4 in those aspects.
What are your thoughts GT owners? Have these issues been addressed with GT5?

I will be, just to have it in my library.
Also with games today, they can be very dynamic with respect to updates that they could not before. So something like a 30k turbo upgrade only netting 8hp, can be changed if the programmers see people complaining about it.

I think the only place where GT does best are the physics and graphics compared to Forza. When I was playing Forza 2 and 3, the physics felt very much like GT3/4 at best. I do love the fact that you can mod the car ALOT more in Forza than you can in any GT series BUT GT5 is pretty close to a simulation on some cars IF you have the steering wheel. Like I posted before, I can't really review the whole game right now because I have driven most cars to see how different the game is to GT4 but there is a great significant difference between 4 and 5 with my 4-5 hours of play time through this weekend. The only bad thing I can review about this game right now is that the loading sucks ass. Anyways, it is a game and it is close enough to a simulation but far from a true simulation...I just wanna buy a Galant VR4!!! who ever has one, send me one!!

Re: GT5: anyone get it?
But wouldn't the whole going 200mph, but it feels like 40mph be part of the physics?
For how unrealistic games like Need for Speed: Shift/ProStreet may be, that is one thing they simulate very well.

Going fast but feeling like you aren't is a part of not having the seat of your pants feel and being able to use your peripheral vision, not being enveloped in the environment. If you're closer to the TV or monitor you have a better sense for what's going on, or if you have multiple displays with a surrounding view you can have a good feel for how fast you're really going.
