Data degredation doesn't apply so much to the digital formats. If you miss a bit because of a bad disc or cable, no big deal. I can't believe Best Buy can sell their GOLD USB cables when it doesn't matter for digital protocols.

I am drunk, just in case that didn't make sense...

Good, now I have no good reason not to buy a PS3.

It means a lot, if it's actual important data that you are trying to save, not just a video or music file.

The gold USB cables are like the extremely overpriced HDMI cables, which are also digital and just like a USB cable where a $5 one will perform no worse than a $200 one.

Data that is failed during the sending process should just be resent.

Blu Ray writing closer together is fine, because of the idea behind the blue laser they are using being able to read "finer" writing techniques.

When data is burned onto a disk, it creates little burn marks that represent 1s and 0s or on and offs. The disk is a reflective surface so when a laser is reading a disk it looks for reflection and non reflection. The Burn marks make it so that the laser does not reflect (off or 0), while leaving the surface not burned reflects the laser (on or 1).
The pictures show the difference in the space between the rows of the burn. By making the bands closer it allows for more data to be written and read. So a lot of this space is attributed to not only the disk itself but the size of the actual laser when it hits the disk. By makeing the laser smaller increases the space to be burned on the disk.
